My mom just dropped off my copy of The Seventh Seal at my office, along with Muppets Take Manhattan, How to Train Your Dragon, Some Like it Hot, and lovely fern green wool hoodie she knitted for me. I now have the chance to see a decent PQ version of The Seventh Seal, and have a few other goodies to watch while I wait for Hausu, The Man with No Name Trilogy, and If... to show up.

Me too, I finally found the BD at a resonable price, 12.50 on Amazon. It's like 30 bucks in stores here. Do you think it would pair well with The Seventh Seal, as I'm trying to decide what BD I should watch tonight after The Seventh Seal? Or would Muppets Take Manhattan be a better choice? You could easily argue that all three have a similar plot of the protagonist trying to find himself to prove what kind of a person he is. However, HTTYD is definitely closer in time period and geographical location to The Seventh Seal. Also, the concept of death is much more prevailent in HTTYD than The Muppets Take Manhattan. Some Like it Hot is too light-hearted to be watched with The Seventh Seal, I'll watch it tomorrow.
Just trying to lighten things up here folks, sorry if I offend anyone. ![]() |

![]() Good point about HTTYD - it's a classic Hero myth following Joseph Campbell's explication of the heroic mono-myth. HTTYD also pairs really well with Avatar - it's a shorter version ![]() Meanwhile, my own Seventh Seal is also sitting beside the TV awaiting its turn... |

FYI, for some stuff, even importing from Amazon UK is cheaper than the US. Not Criterions, obviously, but other titles. I was able to get Disney's sleeping Beauty brand-new for about 23 bucks Canadian, once the exchange was applied from Amazon UK, whereas you're lucky to find it under 30 USED here. ![]() |

![]() And I can find it used for $21 on a pretty regular basis. Apart from Criterions, I'm actually halfway decent at finding good prices - Criterion just kills me. |

Another movie that goes well with The Seventh Seal is Roger Corman's The Masque of the Red Death with Vincent Price, Jane Asher (Deep End) and Hazel Court. It was photographed by Nicolas Roeg. I would love to see this on Blu-ray, but the MGM "Midnite Movies" DVD is pretty solid.

I picked up Sleeping Beauty at Borders earlier this year using one of their 40% off coupons. Months later, I discovered that the Blu-ray case contained DVDs.

Not so lucky to find it locally cheap here. I had never seen the BD of it, and had bought the DVD copy for 25 at Wally World last year just after it went OOP (no BD player at the time). Only diff between my import and the NA copy is the lack of BD-Live, and it's region B. I have a cheapass Seiki from Walmart that was hackable to play Region B/PAL titles. Best 78 bucks spent, and it's comparable to my Panasonic. |

I got very lucky with Sleeping Beauty - ended up getting the first printing with the special edition slipcase for that price (the slip opens up like the old Beauty and the Beast DVD). I'm hoping to get as lucky with The Third Man at a good price, but I'm not sure that'll happen. |

Nice. I bought my first seven Criterions during the last Barnes & Noble sale and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was one of them. I have yet to watch it though.
