In fairness, some of those are total barebones releases. The La Haine release is region locked, and barebones. At least the Criterion release brings a few extras to the table (albeit it probably doesn't bring enough to the table to justify $39.99 MSRP). I'll still get it though, when the B&N sale comes around...

Speaking of "alternatives". Anyone else find the extreme contrast in cover arts between the UK version of Certified Copy, and the Criterion version, to be absolutely hilarious? It's like they are from an two completely alternate universes.

The poster art for Certified Copy that AE used would have looked great on a Criterion cover with just the image and title on it.

Looks like this month, the less expensive, more 'bare' release will be Summer Interlude. Although, I can't help but feel it should have been Certified Copy, since the alternative is available at a much lower price, and there seems to be only one real added extra in addition to what we'd usually see on one of the less expensive releases.

I'm pretty happy with the Artificial Eye version of Certified Copy, so the Criterion won't be a huge priority, but I may get it at some point.
I've been curious to ask you. Are you the same BLG that used to record/archive live Pearl Jam shows? (before they started taking care of that themselves).

I notice your avatar has a Pearl Jam reference...

I actually liked how it is in a lower-price point. I am really happy to see most of these films are some of the best releases of each month. Take for example The Moment of Truth, Letter Never Sent and Summer Interlude ! Three Outlaw Samurai and The Organizer and nice too.

Yeah, that would be me. I go back and forth with the music stuff and don't have too much going on there at the moment.

I FINALLY decided to update that silly "My Criterion" page, by entering all of the titles to kill time while waiting for announcements (tedious.... they need a better method to select titles) and I decided to add a title to the "Wish List" since I missed out on the $10 promo because I didn't have anything in there.

I selected "La Haine" and said to myself "A Blu-upgrade would be quite nice" Less than 10 minutes later we had announcements..... and you know the rest

Yeah, I can't decide if I want to buy the light-hearted romp or the dark character study.

Eh...

Would much rather have had "Winter Light"/"Ingmar Bergman Makes A Movie" or the whole "Silence" trilogy.

For eclipse sets to go BLU I don't mind that technically maybe the transfers aren't top notch but in the end it would be better IMO.

but then again it is a business and I know they have their reasons etc.

I love the cover art for most of the titles actually I have always detested the cover art for Le Haine. Just never grabbed me it isn't really bad and it is fitting but I could be still angry over no major BLU upgrades for May.

I was going to say, where do you find time to do all that and have 1000 blu-rays.

I actually think WAY back in the day before FLAC's we sent each other a few tapes (or actually CDR's, since I never had a DAT machine). I haven't done that for many years though.

Concerning the "Certified Copy" covers...

The AE version makes the movie look like it might be a fun, middle-aged, romantic comedy. While the Criterion version makes the movie look boring and academic.

I've seen the movie and believe both covers to be an accurate and misleading impression of the film at the same time.

Not a bad month...

La Haine and Monika are strong probables, CC would be a definite if I weren't debating the Artificial Eye release.

The rest are all solid maybes. Even Malkovich could wind up in the 'eh, what the hell' pile come July or November.

It appears someone in Criterion's art department forgot to renew their Typotheque font licenses.

I selfishly hope the silence trilogy doesn't get an upgrade soon as its one of the sets I purchased from criterion's v-day sale (along with the Hiroshi teshigahara and John cassavettes)

It's pretty decent, despite the icky covers on some releases. For me, I care more about the films than the covers. Criterion's had at least one film each month in 2012 I've been interested in. I'm holding off on the March titles until the rumoured 50% off sale, because March is also a pretty heavy blockbuster month, with Tintin, Muppets, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and The The Musketeers (good cheesy fun, that's put on hold until another price drop).

As much as I'm looking forward to May, I'm more eager for Tuesday because it's the 21st, and Anatomy of a Murder finally comes out!

Well of course the latter is important, but so is the former. I mean, it's the C-R-I-T-E-R-I-O-N Collection fercrissake. Higher standards and all...

What are they trying to do, make everything look as generic as Eclipse?

I don't care too much about cover art, but the CC and BJM covers are incredibly boring and effortless.

Indeed it is. I didn't look that carefully.

It doesn't seem to be available though, for whatever reason. At least not on amazon.fr...
