Nightmares about the blob itself or about the theme song? Haha.

I'm about to sit down to The Blob in a few minutes. I wore out my old Criterion DVD copy, so I'm truly looking forward to getting a lot of mileage out of the Blu-ray.

(In all honesty, the picture quality improvement is probably negligible over the DVD, and the extras were transported over, so I could have stuck with the DVD and been alright...but The Blob deserves the best.)

Both! haha - just playing

It was really good quality. On a side note, I'm watching Ministry Of Fear now.

I don't see how it's less of a fit than Repo Man, anyway. (Other than the fact that it stars Keanu Reeves.)
This, my friend, is a good call.

I would love to see a Criterion release of The River's Edge.

I've got the movie right here on DVD as a three-movie Dennis Hopper set with Blue Velvet and Chattahoochee, but The River's Edge was my main reason to buy the set years ago.

Back when I was in high school, my friends and I rented The River's Edge about a dozen times on VHS. The characters in that movie looked just like us, they listened to the same music we did, and they were basically just like us....except, of course, that we never killed anyone.

Is this a trick question?

(Actually, I have not actually seen The Life Aquatic. My endurance for Wes Anderson movies evaporated after I saw Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums. For all I know, the third time might have been a charm, and I might have loved it.)

Crispin Glover is fascinating in River's Edge. I'm still confused if it's because he's so real, or because he's so over the top.

I remember when River's Edge was released, people either loved or hated Glover's performance. I thought it was over the top and risky, but I liked it. When the film was finally released on DVD, I worried that the film wouldn't hold up and wouldn't have aged well. It aged just fine, I thought, and Glover's performance more than held up. In fact, I had a greater appreciation for it in 2001 than I did in 1987. It would be an excellent BD release for Criterion.

..no?..
Like I said, I have my preferences and priorities just like everybody else but I really don't see the point in thinking in terms of worthy/unworthy or deserving/undeserving. Aside from reinforcing the image of pretentious film snobs what real purpose does that serve?

And again, I understand what people are usually driving at. My issue (if it can even be called that) is with the specific language.

Finished Ministry Of Fear.

It was a wee bit predictable, but it was a really, really fun film. I really enjoyed it.

I'm dying for Stray Dog, Le Samourai, and Hard Eight. If one of those are annouced this year on blu it would be a treat.

Le Samourai was hinted at during the New Years newsletter. I'm pretty sure Hard Eight was a rumor last year, though.

I like Wes Anderson's films (even though I don't own any), so I'm all for The Life Aquatic coming out. But I'd rather see Eraserhead come out. Honestly, I'm not that picky right now, I'm just glad they released The Blob.

I wonder whether Criterion does car restorations. On the DVD edition of The Blob, before the current one, if a new one was released, it's obvious that the sky-blue convertible was repainted. You can see evidence of an uneven paint job on one of the car's doors, in more than one scene. Can you still see that on the Blu-ray?

Edit: I only bring this matter up because a repainted car is part of the zeitgeist: teen-aged guy gets car, does a touch-up paint job until he can get a better paint job, better car, whatever.

Im dying to get my hands on this. Have you seen The Big Heat by Fritz Lang?, it's a damn good noir.

Including Georgio Moroder's Version? Its nirvana if you're into that kind of music.

Well yeah.

Insofar as "deserve" has any meaning outside of "what Criterion's owners want," of coures.

Make sure to watch the regular version first, not the Moroder one. I like them both, but starting with Moroder's version is a bad idea.

I still have to see The Big Heat, but I've been thinking of buying it from Twilight Time.

That is not a nice comment, octagon. Deep inside we all are film snobs. I think Coop has the right to voice his opinion, even if it is negative, which in many cases evens the scale.
