I understand what you mean, and I might check this one out online at some point in time. It would be fascinating to see the turn of events with a different culture.

I love prison escape movies. Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, The Great Escape, and, of course, the brilliant Le Trou and Brute Force, both of which are Criterion DVDs.
If you could find a copy somewhere, pick up The Tunnel. It is a spectacular film.

Any time escape films are mentioned, I must include As Far As My Feet Will Carry Me. Truly sensational film based on a true story. (I have the Hong Kong release).

This talk of wedding scenes in movies has me thinking of the wonderful scene from The Godfather, and the role of culture in that scene in helping to establish key themes and relationships in the film.

This particular movie did not seem like my personal can of worms when I gave it a cursory look to the summary and booklet, so I passed it by. It's good to know that occasional Criterion flicks show up on this particular used rack, though. Maybe I'll get really lucky one day and see Pierrot Le Fou or The Third Man.
Monsoon Weddkng is a great film. I wasn't expecting to fall head over heels for it but I did. It's a steal for $15 if it indeed is in great condition.

I thought I'd stop by and read a little bit of the thread You guys are posting so much here I very rarely get to read everything that is said in a single day.

The screeners for the latest Criterion titles actually showed up only last night (rather late). I watched Repo Man, so this is the one review that is coming up later tonight.

Pro-B

p.s.
I really wish HVE were still around so that some of their titles could come up on Blu-ray, P. It was great to have them around with Criterion back in the days. I would love to get Schroeder's Tricheurs (Cheaters) on Blu-ray as I am a very big fan of Bulle Ogier. The BFI did such a great job with his other early titles that are now out on Blu-ray. But I have the U.S. DVD. It has a lovely, Criterion-esque transfer

Super excited over Richard III, but also curious how much the Criterion REPO MAN will differ from the Eureka Region B locked release.

I was always curious about Séance on a Wet Afternoon (which I believe HVE released on DVD years back.)

Yes. I would go with Yojimbo first, if you liked A Fistfull of Dollars. It is a fun film to watch.

I was lucky to have been able to buy a brand new factory sealed copy of Monsoon Wedding via the Amazon Marketplace for $12 a few months ago.

Classier, sure. But not durable — it's paper, and paper doesn't last — and the plastic cases are far from "cheap". My Seven Samurai is already ripping in the corners where you slide the inner box out, not to mention the ones that arrive dented or shushed. Plastic cases all the way for me.

I really do love the Criterion standard Paperstyle cases, that is the ones that reflect the DVD counterparts. (not the original Blu Cases that even Criterion agreed were bad)

However, I agree that the paper cases need to be more sturdy. Esp the Night of the Hunter release that paper stock was insanely flimsy. I managed to get decent paper style cases at Barnes. If I know they are being released that way I buy them in store. No one touches my dvds/ blus on my shelves so I they usually always look brand new.

Out of curiosity, why?

And a question of import related to this, what year were you born?

I'll respond back with my perspective, but I'd like to see yours, first.

I think a lot of people here (me included) got it when a seller had it for something like $8 about a year ago-ish.

Secret of the Grain is fantastic. Just don't watch it when you're hungry... or at least have soem Couscous handy. Then watch it in a double feature with Big Night. You'll gain 10 lbs easy.

Mine stayed looking new(ish)... until I moved. Then moved again. I always try to keep them on top so they don't get crushed, but I'd personally just rather have everything ins a sturdy plastic case that won't ever break down.

Do Criterion still have a link with IFC? If so could it be Frances Ha? Although it's not out in Cinemas until May so probably not.
