The only other Criterions my store currently has is Rosemary's Baby and Man Who Knew Too Much.

A few weeks ago before they purged, they had a TON of Criterions.

I was stunned to walk in there and see so many copies of Badlands.

I did not know that you lived in Georgia. I've also noticed that some of the Best Buys have been losing their Criterion selections. This is of no consequence to me, because I've already bought up most of the Criterions that they have for sale at most Best Buys, but it's bad for the future.

I'd like for Repo Man to go on sale at Best Buy so that I can use one of the late April/early May Upgrade & Save coupons on it.

Heh, I think the last thing I saw in a theater was Casino Royale. I can't even count down 2012 films yet

That's a pretty good idea, thanks. I ditched streaming when they separated the plans however many years ago but they have the BDs (which half-surprises me...their BD selection can be really spotty sometimes).

I think that I may be grumpier in my middle age, and that I'll soon end up like Clint Eastwood in Gran Torino. I just do not have the patience to deal with movie theaters most of the time. It's been forever since I've gone three months without a single theater visit, though.

I guess that I should get cracking on that. I used to have a routine of going to the six-dollar pre-noon matinees down the street after my Saturday morning training runs, but that fell by the wayside after I bought my Blu-ray player.

I'll be going to see To the Wonder and Oblivion in late April, so my dilemma will be remedied. I thought about going to see Spring Breakers and I still might, but I'm also intrigued by the no-CGI effects Evil Dead remake.
Don't go out of your way to see a movie theatrically just to have something to talk about online. I'm not posting in that thread either because there just aren't that many films released the past few years that I truly love.

Oh, no worries about that. I never seem to have a shortage of topics to pull out of thin air on this site.

It's just unlike me to go for a span of three months without going to a movie theater at least once. I usually hit the theater once a month or so, but nothing has quickened my pulse so far this year. This did not really hit home with me until I stumbled across that Best of 2013 thread.

The new Terrence Malick film will be a treat to see at the theater, so that will be worth the wait if I don't make it out to something before then.

Mine had about 5-6 on release day. I am waiting for the U+S to snag it with some BB certs.

Don't bother, January-March has been a complete dumping ground for films. IMO the only thing that was great was Side Effects, everything else...bleah.

But +1,000 to To The Wonder and Oblivion, finally something to get excited about! (And I may go see Jurassic Park in the IMAX this weekend).

That should be a lot of fun. I bought the stand-alone Jurassic Park disc a couple weeks back at Best Buy, because I have no interest in the two sequels and had avoided the trilogy set as such. I have no need for the 3D version, because I do not see in 3D in the first place, but the 2D version is always a great popcorn movie to revisit.

This reminds me, "quickened my pulse" is my favorite oft-repeated phrase of yours.

I've always been repetitive with my writing, so many of my phrases probably turn up several times a day. This might be useful in case somebody ever tries to steal my identity, though.

As a huge Stooge fan, that's good to hear!

I bought the complete Three Stooges shorts on DVD as they were released (in chronological order). It's possibly the most prized DVD set in my collection.

I have to admit that I've never seen the remake movie. I'm sort of a purist that way.

I'd *love* to see the Stooges get the Criterion treatment on bluray ... with a mega-dose of special features! (Just trying to make a Criterion related connection to this post somehow).

Woobwoobwoobwoobwoob (Where's the eye-poke emoticon when you need one).

Me too! The advance word from some of the major horror websites is that it is a pretty strong remake, with unrelenting gore throughout. I am not looking forward to being in a theater that will no doubt be filled with teenagers, people texting, and baby carriages (seriously, who are these parents?!), but if it is the price I have to pay to see what will hopefully be a decent remake for once, so be it.

The more I read about the upcoming Pierre Etaix set, the more I am convinced this just might be Criterion's release of the year so far. I had never heard of Etaix until the announcement three months ago, after which I began to look online and read reviews of his films. Fans of Tati, Chaplin, and Buster Keaton rejoice.

The set showed up in my Amazon Gold Box today. That was enough temptation to crumble my last bit of patience trying to wait until the B&N sale in July. I decided to use up my remaining amazon points I had been hoarding and pre-order the set now, along with Richard III.

So far there have only been two must sees: Side Effects and Stoker, you haven't missed much this year.

Le Cercle, Army of Shadows and Last Year at Marienbad arrived today.

Marienbad condition is flawless.

Considering buying another one and selling this one off down the line. It's in THAT great of shape. Sitting in Best Buy's warehouse for a long time I guess did it wonders. lol

Yeah, I'm the same: never heard of Pierre Etaix, but it's going to be one of my must-buys at the next sale (or even before then ).

Considering that the Eddie Coyle DVD came out several months after their first blu-ray releases, I find it unlikely to be upgraded. They made decisions at the time on which films were to be DVD only and which were both formats, and Eddie Coyle fell into the DVD-only pile, along with Dillinger Is Dead, Downhill Racer, and others. I know the decision on Downhill Racer was due to inferior source materials, but not really sure about the others, unless it was just because they were new to blu-ray and wanted higher profile titles that would sell better. You never know, though.
