CassavetesGodard, what is your favorite Godard film?
It's hard for me to say a fav. If we are talking just about his "New Wave" films (1959 – 1967), the ones that I like the most are Alphaville, Made in U.S.A., Le Petit soldat, Pierrot le fou, Vivre sa vie, and Les Carabiniers (which doesn't get any love even from Godard fans). But really each of his films from the New Wave era are pieces of a personal story for him and I love each just the same. You can't really have a list with Godard because with him you either lke everything or nothing. The ones I listed are prob the ones I like to watch more often. It really is hard to name a fav, I haven't even listed Band of Outsiders, Weekend, or Breathless, which I like too. It's too hard. But I can say, even though I like Michel Piccoli (Dillinger is Dead), I really don't watch Contempt alot, even though I like it.

Hurry, the AFS code (25% off everything) might end tomorrow, the 31st.
Thanks for pointing out the potential end-date on that coupon. I've been going back and forth on whether or not to order anything with it, since I've been one of those with the "B&N has to have a sale soon, right? RIGHT?!?" mindset. But I figured what the heck, why not at least get something in this sale.

Just ordered the Yojimbo/Sanjuro box set and Bigger Than Life. $71.79 with tax. Can't complain. I might even go back for another couple of titles before tomorrow. We'll see.

I have spent over $200 this month with that AFS code. It's not that far off of a B&N sale, because B&N takes 50% off on the MSRP, and Criterion takes 25% off on a already discounted store price. Your only paying $3 more on each blu-ray and dvd with the AFS sale than you are with the B&N sale, so not that bad.

What player?

I'll check tomorrow (March 31) and Thursday (April 1) to see if the AFS code is still working. You don't have to complete a purchase to find out if the code works.

BTW, I will not be in the mood on April 1 for any april fools' rumors or deceptions toward future Criterion releases.

I just hope that all pre-orders before the deadline for films after March 31st is still honored.

My order for the April releases went through with the discount.
I can't imagine Criterion asking for more money after the order was finalized.

I just made two orders - one for all the April titles, and one for all the May titles. I know the May order will result in all 4 discs shipping on May 25th, but that's ok with me - considering I had a $50 Criterion certificate to use, the savings were way better than even a BN sale could be.

I thought about the June titles, but resisted. That's way too far away to be concerning myself with now, and there may very well be a BN sale by then.

If that's the case, though, Neo, you could always just cancel the Criterion order before the June releases ship. Simple? I think so.

But that is the thing, the order is not finalized yet. They don't finalize orders until it ships. Your order should still be under "Open Orders" where you can change it around, which should mean they can too.

Well I went ahead and ordered one last batch while the Criterion AFS code sale is still on. Picked up the following for $192 shipped. This also puts me fairly close to getting a $50 credit for spending $500.

The Wages of Fear
Gimme Shelter
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Days of Heaven
Monsoon Wedding
Revanche
Hunger
Bigger Than Life

Next post is #7,500!

Just finished Yojimbo/Sanjuro, Days of Heaven, & Bigger than Life Blu-rays.

Days of Heaven & Bigger than Life were both firsts for me & I enjoyed both very much. Both films have stuck with me all week. If I had to pick one between the two that I liked more I would have to say Days of Heaven for the Cinematography & Strong Emotions.

Ready for Criterion's April Releases!

Well, I just can't believe you can pre-order for a certain price, and Criterion would not honor the deal.
Am I wrong here?

Couldn't take the withdrawel pains. I had to try again this morning one more time. Ordered "Paris, Texas" and "Days of Heaven" with the AFS code. Still worked for me. That makes about 10 Criterion blu's for me this month. Thank heaven there's just a couple of the older releases that I want yet. From now on it will be mostly new releases.

No, I don't think you are. It would be a terrible business decision for Criterion (or anybody) to attempt to increase the price after they accept your order.

Like I said though, it's not accepted until you get an e-mail. It is still open. It's like pre-ordering something in the B&N sale that comes out after the sale, they don't honor it.

New code:

CINE

Good for 25% off. So if AFS expires today try CINE

Thanks to the Cleveland Cinematheque for the code.
