Watched Chungking Express for the first time last night and really enjoyed it. For some reason, I was expecting something totally different, but was really impressed by the tone of the film and the quirky, light-hearted nature of the film, particularly the second part. This was also the first Wong Kar Wai film I have seen. I see Fallen Angels was recently released and got an excellent review. I read it's sort of a sequel to CE, as it was originally intended to be the third part of that movie.

Was also wanting to see My Blueberry Nights and see the only options are a region 2 that can be had for fairly cheap on amazon uk (but I dont have a region-free player) and the region a japanese import which is on amazon for $55 currently. Anyone have this title and can comment on it or suggest a way it might be had for a better price?

I have the Region B UK import, which is nice. You can read the review of it on this site, if you haven't already. Before jumping on the blu-ray, though, you might want to rent it on DVD, if you can. I enjoy the film to a certain degree, but "My Blueberry Nights" is definitely no "Chungking Express," in my opinion.

I'd imagine In the Mood for Love BR is on Criterion's radar.

I am wondering if they will release that Oshima "YOUTH TRILOGY" this year, since they have that Oshima Eclipse coming out too. They might wait for the end of the year or maybe even next year. Also Oshima's "MERRY CHRISTMAS, MR. LAWRENCE". Oshima + Bowie = . They got alot of Oshima on the plate.

I was looking in my amazon cart today and realized why I haven't purchased a new CC film in over a month... They're too dam expensive! I don't know what to do, I want "Revanche", "Days of Heaven", "Yojimbo/Sanjuro" and "Bigger Than Life", but they've really driven up those prices.

Wondering if anyone else has been discontent on purchasing Criterion because of the prices lately? I mean a little over a month ago almost all CC blus were $24.99 at most and all of a sudden we're seeing $37 to pre-order "M" and "Walkabout"?! That's just outrageous, and that's a huge difference when you're thinking about the expenses of almost $5 and up added to each blu.

Buying directly from Criterion is your best bet right now.
Hurry, the AFS code (25% off everything) might end tomorrow, the 31st.

I see where you're coming from with that. I just bought Che for $37 but then again its' "2" movies, so it was a lot easier to justify to myself. It's actually the first Criterion movie I've bought that was not during a Borders 50% off sale.. I'm waiting for the next one to pick up a few more.

I'll gladly pay $30 for a Criterion blu-ray. I used to shell out $100 for Criterion laserdiscs, so $30 seems cheap to me. And I think M and Walkabout are worth $30 easily.

I actually just did. I purchased "Bigger Than Life" for $7.99 off. That's great! It really only covers shipping though, which I'm fine with. I wish I had done that more.

"Che" was the last movie I purchased before the prices were driven straight through the wall. Good purchase.

I can buy 1 per month and be fine with spending $30 on a CC blu, but that would mean that I have to limit myself on the other blus I plan to purchase throughout the month. And when you compare the old prices to the new, you're paying $10-$20 more buying 2 CC blus per month. That's a lot for some who has a budget for buying movies every month.

Also, when the pre-orders for single-disc Criterion blu-rays go up on Amazon, there almost always priced at $27.99 and then usually drop to $26.99 at some point. So, the key is to always pre-order early and leave it so the price drops, if any, occur, and if the price never drops to a point you're happy with before the release date you can always cancel the pre-order. Seems simple enough, doesn't it?

I wonder if Criterion has asked Amazon to increase their prices for CC titles during the month of the AFS discount, so that Criterion could get more sales on their site. In other words I'll be curious if Criterion titles go back to the previous price range on Amazon.com once the AFS discount code expires.

Price fixing is illegal. So I doubt it.
