It is something to ponder, that with all the footage Malick cut from his films, there could be enough to create dozens of movies. Is it a waste of material? It may just be Malick's method to the madness.

I see Malick in the same way as I see Kubrick. I hope Malick gets around to filming his inspirations before he croaks. Ever since Terrence Malick returned to the industry with The Thin Red Line up through The Tree of Life, I anticipated each film like no other. But with To the Wonder, I no longer am as excited about his films anymore.

I hope he still has one more movie with a big ensemble cast in the works such as The Thin Red Line. It doesn't have to be a war movie, but rather something completely different.

Just watched Band of Outsiders for the first time, loved it! So far I'm 4 for 4 with Godard films!

Default Criterion Collection Discussion

I rented Ministry of Fear from Netflix (they only have the DVD unfortunately) so I'll report back after watching it. I'm excited to see it as I've loved the few Fritz Lang films I've seen so far (Metropolis, M and The Big Heat) and Gramme Greene wrote the script, which is good as I love The Third Man.

Well, I suppose the original point is factually true. Technically, nobody does talk about how much pain Da Vinci used in painting the ceiling.

no pain, no gain

not too off topic - after all, Michael Bay is a Criterion spined director , and perhaps also part of the #illuminati

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but does the upcoming B&N 50% sale include all blu rays and DVDs?

and forgive me if this is a duplicate response by the time I post it.

But, yes, both DVD & Blu-Ray will by 50% off very soon for a few weeks...and only titles that are currently available, no pre-orders of stuff for later (or should I say rarely...sometimes there is a mistake on their web site for a couple of hours).

What do you guys think the chance is that Criterion might upgrade "My Own Private Idaho"? I noticed it was produced by New Line, which Warner now owns, so I'm thinking the chance Criterion would release a blu-ray of it might be slim.

I'm thinking about buying the DVD, but might hold off if there's any chance it could be released on blu-ray.

I may have worded my question poorly. What I meant to ask is does the sale include all Blu Rays and DVD's, even non-Criterions?

Or maybe that's what you got from my original question lol

Criterion only.. They did just have a 40% off for all blu's I believe, but it's over.

For those who haven't seen it yet (myself included), "Jubal" is available in full on Youtube. It's only in 360p, but I figure it gives those a chance to decide before buying it during the sale.

Thumbs up The Third Man is MINE!

Well boys, I've done it!

I bought The Third Man!

For $125!

In addition to the disc, I receive both the original digipak, booklet and replacement case. The eBay seller wrote that both are "like new" and the film was never viewed. The person was selling off 7 other Criterions from his/her collection.

I bought The Third Man at the "buy now" price of $125 because a lot of these BDs are going for $150-200+ (new). I am fairly confident this person is honest and for a nearly new The Third Man and receiving both cases is frankly a pretty solid deal for me.

I cannot wait to receive this in the next few days!

Here is the original listing I won:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Third-Ma...vip=true&rt=nc

Now "the thrill of the hunt" has ended! Time for the next hunt!

Cheers!

Congrats bud on your purchase...at the time I paid like 70 or 80 for my copy and have no regrets...to each their own and if you have the money and want it bad enough...more power to you.

Congrats again and happy viewing!!!

Congrats. I'm glad I didn't have to search for that one. I got it for about $18. I've had that hunt for a couple of the OOP DVDs, Tokyo Olympiad being the most expensive.

So tempted to complete the Hitchcock Man on the run double bill I started with NXNW by rewatching The 39 Steps...but alas, I have a dozen unwatched Olive blurays.

Things have been busier than I expected this weekend, but I did make time this morning to revisit The Last Picture Show (and watch it on Blu-ray for the first time). I had forgotten how much I loved this movie when I owned the DVD set. It's one of three outright masterpieces on the America Lost and Found collection.

Now, I've got some newer Criterions in my stack that I have not yet watched and am excited to watch (Things to Come, Charade, my upgrade of Stagecoach, and three Olive Films Blu-rays, but I had a hankering to finish watching all the Blu-rays in the America Lost and Found set first.
