WEEKEND. Yeah, WEEKEND. The trailer does look pretty interesting, actually. The film itself has its moments, indeed some very interesting moments, and certainly makes some interesting and valid points... and then it makes them again, and again, and again... Godard's WEEKEND is a film to appreciate without really liking. Part of the problem is that none of the characters are really at all likable and the satire is so dark and heavy-handed that it's more annoying than even wryly amusing. It's at its best those times that it's playing around with the medium in a metafictional way but even then it looks like it's merely trying to be clever. Criterion's bonus features definitely help in the film's appreciation but a good audio commentary might have helped even more. I think that Louis Malle's BLACK MOON, with some similar themes, is more entertaining, weird and possibly disturbing as it may be.

I've been saving my nickels for months - My grab so far:
Devil's Backbone Ice Storm Babette's Feast On the Waterfront Seven Samurai Tokyo Drifter In the Mood for Love Battle of Algiers I have enough for 1 more of the following: Complete Jean Vigo Sansho the Bailiff 3 Women I'm leaning toward the Altman but see almost nothing written about that one. Any recommendations? |

I love 3 Women, I think it to be one of Altman's best and if you've never seen it I hope you enjoy it. I've probably watched it 20 or more times. Shelly Duvall is great in it. I love the films music also. But I could be in a minority.
