I'm thinking that they may release Le Samourai in December after all, since I just ordered the French Blu-ray. If I had decided not to spend money on the French Blu-ray, then it would likely be two or three years before Criterion upgrades Le Samourai. Since I just shelled out for the import, though, this undoubtedly guarantees an announcement in the next month or two.

A bunch of people here bought Tokyo Story on DVD last month during the sale, so they're the reason why we're getting the Blu-ray in November.

I've never seen a John Cassavetes film, but I have always heard such great things, and I have been wanting to check out this box set for a long long time. Funnily enough, I almost bought it on DVD during a fall 2012 sale...just shortly before I bought my Blu-ray player. I'm glad that I waited.

I'm going to blind-buy the Cassavetes set, but only during a 50% off Barnes and Noble sale.

Well...I guess that I've seen Rosemary's Baby, but I've never seen a film that was directed by John Cassavetes.

EDIT: No, wait.... I saw Gloria on HBO when I was a kid. I have seen a film that Cassavetes directed, after all.

Did you find a blu-ray copy? I know how difficult that can be.

Absolutely! I thought about buying Tokyo Story on DVD myself and I think that I will buy Stranger Than Paradise soon, so if I do, expect a Blu-Ray.

Default Criterion oop advice?

Criterion oop advice, does anyone know if there's a massive picture quality difference between the bluray vs DVD editions of Le cercle rouge and for Last Year at Marienbad??

Been trying to buy a copy of both, but the price is off the chart of the bluray versions of both titles... Are the cheaper DVD versions worth it or the picture quality sucks?

Thanks y'all

Phenomenal film. Bookie's worth the cost of the entire set....

Just saw Before Midnight for the first time and is a fantastic film. It really compliments well its already excellent predecessors and has a very sharp, funny and heartfelt script and Hawke and Delpy are phenomenal. I might say is my favorite from the trilogy. I just wish Criterion will release the whole trilogy because that'll be one hell of a package!

Well, It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World was originally supposed to come out in Nov, because that's the 50th anniversary, but they decided to take more time on special features, so I assume it's not going to make December, but rather sometimes next year.

Y Tu Mama Tambien is also still slated to come, but Cuaron has been too busy with Gravity to approve the transfer.

I caught a half hour or so of Faces on TCM a while back, really liked Husbands and Chinese Bookie is a really cool ride if you're willing to meet it halfway.

I wish I'd waited now but don't really regret the purchase. What I've seen so far is really engaging, I'm just never quite in the right mood.

While working in a bar in the early 90s I was involved in very short-lived software venture with some friends and we incorporated under the name Dalton Technical Group.

Good times...

Do you have any knowledge on when the World Cinema Foundation titles will be released?

This is easily on my Top 3 CC Wishlist.

I'm bummed that the inevitable Scanners/Brood makes this release seem all the more unlikely.

Yeah, I should've posted that as well. It's a much more summer-esque look. The blue of the water, and the extreme green of the grass really change the tone... for me at least. It's like the took out all the browns..

That said, it's still my favorite Wes. It had the nicest blend between strong character and quirk IMO.
I'm trying to remember the scene, it rings a bell but it's not fresh in my mind. Maybe I do need to give it a fresh viewing. Guess I'll move it to the top of my Netflix queue. i'm sure it's not the CC edition though.
