Click the cover:

I don't know whether this is an isolated score -- am hoping for a review -- oh, if the cover is enlarged it does state, "Original Soundtrack."

Three Colors: Red was my clear favorite of the three, but I was mesmerized by all of them.

I watched my Blu-ray set of The Three Colors Trilogy a few months back, but never did write up an extensive review. I tried a couple of times, but could not find any way to put my thoughts into words. I guess that's a good thing.

Elevator to the Gallows is my favorite Louis Malle film by far. Jeanne Moreau and the Miles Davis score... So classic.

Blue is my least favorite overall, but especially on the Criterion set since the framing is incorrect. Too many chins cut off to make for a pleasing image.

Still find it sad that titles like John Sayles' City of Hope (which never received a US DVD release), Lynch's Elephant Man, and the gets of the 50s-60s Godzilla films were all announced by Criterion back in the Laserdisc days but never happened, not even on DVD.

Bad news: Ridley Scott's The Counselor bummed me out at the theater earlier this evening.
Good news: Billy Wilder's Sabrina cheered me up when I arrived home from the theater.

I watched the region free UK Blu-ray of Sabrina, and it's quite excellent, but I'd double-dip in a hurry if Criterion were to release it on these shores.

Sabrina would make a fine double feature with the Criterion Blu-ray of Charade, and not just because of the "Audrey Hepburn with an older man" story element.

Hey everyone, I think I'm going to watch Naked Lunch tonight for the second time (the first time I saw it years ago I found it interesting). I'm going to tear open the plastic shrinkwrap on there later and watch it. Does anyone here not like this movie?

Also, I have a new avatar now...its from a movie that has yet to be released in theaters! (I also did a bit of "photoshopping" with a hue/saturation adjustment)

Short of picking up Tokyo Story sometime this week or next, I think I've got all of the Criterions that interest me thus far! Mann's Thief, Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion, Throne of Blood, and Foreign Correspondent will lure me back in though, in the coming months.

A snapshot of the collection:

I don't know, but I would love Happiness and Welcome to the Dollhouse aswell they are extremely upsetting films, but I love them nonetheless.

Well, I just finished Three: Colors White!

It's definitely my favorite between Blue and white so far. The performances were wonderful, the comedy was extremely funny and the film has an ending to be proud of. I also loved
[Show spoiler]the cameos throughout the film as well, that blew my mind. People said they were somewhat connected, I guess I wasn't expecting it.

Overall, Three Colors: White is my favorite of the trilogy so far and I highly recommend a viewing!

The Great Owl approves.

I love the preview for the film in question. Think Kiss Me Deadly combined with Solaris.

I'll be curious to where you rank Red after you've seen it. Red and White alternate on the top spot for me.

As I've heard, Red is supposed to be the best in the trilogy. Not sure how it will rank with me, because White was quite the film. I will definitely watch it this week, possibly tomorrow.

Well, they don't have the rights now, as far as I know, but it's a Fox title, so who knows if they could get them.

On a separate note, I was searching ebay for Criterion LaserDiscs, I had no idea there were so many.
Depending on how you want to count them, there are 300-400 distinct releases. It's difficult to calculate. There are some that didn't have spine numbers, and there are some spine numbers that weren't used (and the two groups don't "match up"). Some titles had separate CAV- and CLV-format releases, others just CLV (I don't believe that there were any that were CAV-only). Some had variant covers (Taxi Driver, for example, was issued with two different covers in both the CAV and CLV editions). Some had variant packaging (Close Encounters of the Third Kind CAV came in both triple-gatefold packaging and a box). There are some instances in which two different titles had the same spine number or the same catalog number. Monterey Pop is the winner here: it shared spine #43 with Shoot the Piano Player and shared catalog #CC1164L with The Killing (spine #64). Some titles were re-issued in new editions (aside from the usual CAV/CLV duplication)

There was also a separate sequence with the name Criterion Television, that had five unnumbered releases, and another separate sequence called Rolling Thunder, in which they offered three titles "presented by" Quentin Tarantino's Rolling Thunder company.

Quote:
May have to spend a little cash on ebay for some of those that aren't in dvd or blu-ray print. I found it interesting there was a Dr. No release, that was recalled for what seemed to be comments in the commentary that Broccoli didn't like. Just thought it was interesting.
Actually, that was true of all three of the Bond films they released (the first three: Dr. No, From Russia with Love, and Goldfinger) in their CAV editions. The CLV editions were issued later without the commentaries.

The rarest (and most expensive) release was #159: The Prince of Tides. It had already started pressing when Barbra Streisand decided she didn't like some parts of the audio commentary that she'd done for it. Criterion had to stop pressing, record a new commentary with Streisand, re-author the disc, and make a new pressing. It was released two years later with a new commentary track, and a new spine number: #227. Though the original pressing was never officially released, some number of copies (believed to be less than 100) made their way into the collector's market. When copies came up for sale, they generally went for $350-450.

Have fun!
