I love A Night to Remember, although I still have not got around to buying the Blu-ray. The stately dignified feel of the movie appeals to me, and it's a beautiful-looking work across the board.

Certain aspects of the sinking of the Titanic in the film were subsequently proven to be historically inaccurate (The ship broke apart while sinking, as depicted in the James Cameron film.), but none of that poses any detriment to this movie as a cohesive and fast-paced story that gets most of the details right while entertaining us.

The new Godzilla film does not hold a candle to the original 1954 movie, but I think that it's easily the best Godzilla film since that 1954 movie.

And the film itself is also remarkable. The first time I saw it I was impressed with how they were able to build suspense and dramatic tension and I just watched it again last week and I'll be damned if it wasn't just as good this time around. It gets a bit sentimental at times but very deftly avoids being sappy or melodramatic.

It's a great freaking movie

But Cameron has not been shy about saying that he loves ANtR, was inspired by it, and quoted several scenes as an homage.
Thanks guys. Will definitely pick it up. And I did read that Cameron pulled some scenes from it. I'll be on the lookout for them when I watch it.

Edit: Missed quoting your post Owl. Thanks you as well.

Robinson Crusoe on Mars is one of those creaky old SF films that's fun to watch if you're in the right mood for it. But I don't imagine many people would fight hard to convince someone that it's actually a great movie.

What it does have is one of the best cast credits ever: "The Woolly Monkey as Mona".

I just finished Close-Up.

It is truly one of the most remarkable things I have ever, ever seen. A very deserving film in The Criterion Collection.

While I think Close-Up is pretty brilliant, I REALLY loved the Traveler, the second feature on the disc. In fact, I think that I prefer it to Close-Up. Then again, Criterion chooses pretty good films for their double features, kind of like how I enjoyed the Underneath more than King of the Hill.

I watched The Traveler after Close-Up last night and I will agree with you that it is a great film. I don't think I preferred it overall to Close-Up, but it was damn good. I think I really love this Kiarostami guy.

Just thought I would post my Criterion collection, since I put them all together, reorganizing my DVD/BD.

Winter Sleep, Ceylan's follow-up to Once Upon a time in Anatolia, just won the Palme d’Or.

You do. It's fantastic, although you really have to be in the mood for its pace.

I'd grab the Blu if it wasn't so pricey.

I would have thought 'Mommy' would have won, had some great reviews and things said about it.

I just finished Certified Copy. I started off very cold to the film, but as each minute passed, I found myself loving it more and more.

This interpretation pretty much makes me understand the film. There were a couple of things that I didn't put together and this makes it whole.

[Show spoiler]first, thanks about your review of "Close-Up". I think that I will catch it while it's still available. By the way is "The Traveler" subtitled ?

I did enjoy much more his last movie "Like Someone In Love (in fact, I fell in love with this movie) - already bought the UK blu-ray; well, and I watched again "Copy Conforme/Certified Copy" and tend to love it much more.
it reminded me R.Linklater's "Before Sunset" (with this "real time" ballad, strolling in the street when they are talking the bateau mouche, etc... same here with Copy Conforme : they are talking and talking (often about arts, architecture (like in "Before Sunrise", but also memories...
and despite the fact that I'm not a huge fan of J.Binoche (my weakness going for Julie Delpy), she's very moving in this movie;
I love how the movie, surreptitiously, slowly is going into something strange- just creating this strange, surreal atmosphere-
I loved how I was stucked when she called him "mon chéri" (although that could be predictable...)
now, this is very strange in the end - and I didn't want to read some other reviews (because I will rewatch it a third time) : is it a dream of an encounter ? is it her memories ? is he dead ?
you can't tell in the end because some things "doesn't match" with this real-time story (places, scenes, the way she re-dressed, some parts their conversation, etc...)
that's how the film goes into another direction than the Linklater series.
This reminds me the atmosphere of some old Resnais movies such "L'amour à mort" for instance...

oh and I wanted to add that he is really the king of "hors champ"/off-camera
it's really fascinating...
it even goes a step further in "Someone Like In Love"
