Yes, there is a Canadian release. I own it, but I have not viewed it yet, so I don't want to recommend it right now. Sorry.

You can check the UK review, i am not sure if it looks the same, but i don't think it has been remastered, so i don't imagine it would look any better:

For my last post of the year, I'm going to get totally wild, let my imagination run free, and throw caution to the wind as I conjure up my dream list of 10 additions and 10 upgrades to the Criterion Collection in 2015:

New additions (in alphabetical order): The Awful Truth (1937); Far From Heaven (2002); Julia (1977); Lifeboat (1944); The Macomber Affair (1947); Man With a Movie Camera (1929; with the Alloy Orchestra score); Ossessione (1943); Suspiria (1977); Tobacco Road (1941); and Victor/Victoria (1982, with the German original included as a bonus feature)

Note: I didn't include Mulholland Dr. (2001) because it's understood!

Upgrades (also in alphabetical order): Day of Wrath (1943); The Furies (1950); Heaven Can Wait (1943); The Killers (1946/1964); The Lady Eve (1941); Make Way for Tomorrow (1937); Night and the City (1950); Pandora's Box (1929); Summertime (1955); and Written on the Wind (1956).

Finally, in closing, I want to thank everyone who's taken the time to educate me, delight me, challenge me, enlighten me ... but most importantly, to befriend me ... during the past year. You're a great group of people, and I appreciate you collectively, and as individuals. Happy 2015!

I really like the way you think. An upgrade of Pandora's Box? Yes, please. New addition of Far From Heaven? Again, yes please. Etc.

OTOH, I WISH I could feel that Mulholland Dr. is understood. I'm beginning to lose hope.

Man, I would be stoked if those all came true. I wouldn't ask for anything else. Well, maybe some Busby Berkeley 😀

Cheers!

I'll probably be late to the drawing hint party tomorrow, since I'll be running with some friends in the morning, so I'll put my own wish list on record...

In a Lonely Place
This is the darkest of all of the film noirs, but the world will be so much brighter if Criterion releases it in 2015

Brute Force
The Naked City
Thieves' Highway
Night and the City

Jules Dassin's American film noirs need an upgrade on these shores.

Night of the Demon/Curse of the Demon
I understand that a region-free French Blu-ray of this outstanding Jacques Tourneur horror film exists, but I've been holding out for a good release on these shores, ideally from Criterion.

The Lost Weekend
This is one of the great Billy Wilder films, and I'm itching to upgrade my old DVD.

Equinox
This would be a great lead-in Criterion release before the theatrical release of the next Star Wars movie in December 2015, and, although it's a crudely-filmed endeavor, I'd love to upgrade my Criterion DVD.

More Alfred Hitchcock...
Preferably Hitchcock's Sabotage, because Sylvia Sidney stars in it.

Le Samouraï
We're all waiting for a decent high definition transfer of this film, and it would be nice for it to happen sooner rather than later.

The Thing from Another World (1951)
The original ice bucket challenger winner. This would be a great Howard Hawks addition to the Collection.

Phase IV
We need this awesome Saul Bass film about ants in the Collection!

Modesty Blaise
The Antonioni movies starring Monica Vitti have already been released, but it would be a shame for 2015 to be a Monica Vittiless year. This is one of her films that I have always wanted to see.

Does anybody else sometimes use TCM as a guide on what to watch? I don't go out of my way to do it myself, but every once in a while I can't help it. Tonight is one of those nights. Tonight's TCM schedule has a musical line-up including 2 Criterion releases ... A Hard Day's Night at 8:45 CST and Gimme Shelter at 10:30 CST. I'll probably settle in with Gimme Shelter (along with its special features) as I've never seen it before, where I've seen A Hard Day's Night a gazillion times (and would be happy to watch it another gazillion times ... maybe my desert island movie ... or at least one of them).

FWIW, before A Hard Day's Night, they'll be showing Elvis on Tour at 7:00 CST ... and following Gimme Shelter starting at 12:15am CST will be Tommy, Jimi Hendrix and The Total Balalaika Show. Good stuff!

Oh ... and right now TCM is showing Journey to the Center of the Earth. Gotta love TCM.

Happy New Year everybody!

I would definitely be happy with more Bergman, Buñuel, Kurosawa, Lynch, Ozu, Sirk, Tarkovsky, Wilder, WKW, and the like in 2015.

It would also be nice to see a Coen Brothers film (Barton Fink) enter the collection as I think it is their best film to date.

Barton Fink belongs in the Criterion Collection... as in, it should definitely be a part of it. I hope that happens!

I've no idea what I want in 2015, I'll just wait for the announcement every 15th or thereabouts and decide then.

What time should we expect the New Year drawing?

Happy New Year to everyone here, raise a and be safe tonight.

I do check out what's airing on TCM often. Looks like they are going to be showing some great music films... I'm partial to Elvis myself! "Thank you, thank you very much."

I've got nothing against Elvis but I was a little disappointed with TCM's NYE lineup this year.

It's okay though, IFC is running a Stooges marathon and I've got box sets of The Thin Man and The Marx Brothers on DVD so I'm covered.

PURE SPECULATION, but a 55th anniversary restoration of Spartacus is due to be unveiled at the Turner Classic Movies Film Festival this Spring, which hopefully means a Criterion Blu-Ray release is in the works.

I think that turned out to be one of the Bergman films, Summer With Monika. Woman dancing on a boat rather than stomping grapes.

I haven't watched Summer With Monika, but have since seen Bitter Rice. I'd be happy to see Criterion get around to it at some point.
