Yes, that DEAD PRESIDENTS laserdisc was a thing of beauty. I miss the commentary track, as well as the censored footage. Paid the full $100 for it, as well as the MENACE II SOCIETY LD (which got a fine BD release).

That U.S. DVD for DEAD PRESIDENTS is pretty poor. I hear there's a far superior DVD in the U.K., but the PAL speed-up would be awful, having watched it on LD several times (and in the theater).

The show is scheduled for November 23.

I wonder if the Lambs release could also include the extras from the MGM release. I seem to recall it had a different commentary. I used to have the old DVD but let it go long ago since it wasn't 16x9. I'd love a comprehensive Bluray from Criterion for my collection.

I gave in and bought the UK blu of Dragon Inn. But isn't one of the UK Hu's already out of print? That was quick.

A Touch Of Zen 3 disc set was limited to 2000 & is now OOP. You can still buy the 2 disc set as it's not limited.

Why are so many people hoping for Criterion to release Chasing Amy on blu, which is quite possibly the least cinematic film in their entire collection? What are they looking forward to exactly? Sharper images of flannel shirts polluting Smith's poorly composed two shots?

Unless you are a huge Smith fan, I just don't get it.

I bet there are a lot of people for whom that was their first Criterion disc.

Thanks, I missed that announcement. Looking on Google, it looks like it was announced the day I went on vacation. I hope nothing else important happened that day!

Quality of the movie aside, if a movie professionally shot on 35mm is properly restored, you'll get more details, more fine elements, probably a more adequate color-grading, so overall a more faithful PQ anyway.

It's poorly composed ? So what ? You'll still get a HD bump in terms of those fine details etc.

I'd like to have two copies of the film so I can have one in my Criterion section and one in my Kevin Smith movies section.

(I have the same for Godzilla: the Blu in Criterion and the old Classic Media DVD in my Godzilla section).

The documentary King Hu 1932-1997, which Criterion provided in HD on their release of Touch of Zen BD. All signs point to Eureka intentionally releasing it in SD (on DVD) so as to allow the Limited Edition to be sold to BD and DVD buyers.

What are you on about? I'm not even having this discussion. Not even one bit.

Any possibility of your comments sabotaging the on-going 4K restoration of Chasing Amy shall remain fruitless.

As we speak, Becker and Kev are likely near done with the project.

Blu-ray upgrades I would like:

WISE BLOOD

SISTERS (some people have had sound-synch problems with the Arrow BD, so this one might need to be remastered)

Arrow's release of Closely Watched Trains is region free, cheap, and worth grabbing if you don't want to wait on a Criterion release.
