The Late Ozu Eclipse, and Floating Weeds are my greatest blind-buys. Just incredible films, and they have great replay-value. Great commentaries for the FW set too, especially the Ebert one. Still need to get the Only Son set myself.

With Prime, I've generally got all of mine on release day. Without Prime, I've usually got them 2-3 days after release date.

I watched 45 Years on Netflix last night and while it is slow moving, it does tell a strong story about choices we make in relationships and the opportunities that passed us by. Chock full of symbolism and keen insight on the psyches of both the male and female protagonists. Well acted, too.
I enjoyed it. I think my opinion would fall in the minority, but I think it is one of the stronger modern films that Criterion has chose to release. I liked it better than the recent Assayas films, better than Phoenix, and better than the parts of Certain Woman that I did see. |

I wish they would do Hatari!. One of my favorite Hawks films as a kid and the transfer out right now is beyond atrocious.

In the Criterion newsletter I just received, they mention that The Great Escape is now on their channel along with some of the extras from the 1993 laserdisc edition. I wonder if this means that we might see a Criterion blu-ray release of this movie soon?
"The Great Escape With a powerful ensemble that includes Steve McQueen and James Garner, John Sturges’s classic adventure film comes to the Channel in our long-unavailable 1993 laserdisc edition. Among the special features: a commentary with Sturges and members of his crew." https://www.filmstruck.com/us/watch/detail/1300011815 |

I'm still hoping we see Frank Capra's 'Meet John Doe' get the Criterion treatment. It's a nice counterbalance to 'It's a Wonderful Life' and Gary Cooper and Barbara Stanwyck are sensational. As it's been in the public domain for many years, all that's out there is iffy at best.

Hello All !!
I have a question, and I apologize if this has been addressed previously. I was wondering if Criterion is releasing any of Warner Brothers' titles on Blu ? The reason I even gave this a thought is because someone on the Warner thread said that Criterion had been (or is) releasing some of Warner's titles. One title in particular, The Heart is Lonely Hunter, is a Warner title I have been waiting to be released on Blu for ages, and even though I keep abreast of all of Warner's releases, I was just wondering if a film like this might possibly be released by Criterion ? Any help would be appreciated !! ![]() |
