Shipping during the flash sales is free for orders over $50.

Only disadvantage is that there are currently two Criterion 24-hour flash sales per year, whereas there are two B&N events - each lasting about a month. So, a much smaller window to shop.
Okay. I've only had 2 or 3 orders from Criterion though I should probably pick up my game.

Other disadvantages would be that the flash sales are only good on things in-stock, and many sell out. Not the case with B&N as you can just order to the store or ship to home anything not on hand.

Also, for the winter sale the $10 bonus gift cards at B&N can add up.

.
Close enough -- total $550 merchandise for $500 cash

I miss their double point promotion they had a couple years ago. I loaded up on Gift Certificates to use during the Flash sale so ended up with $50 for only $250 outlay

But with my B&N member and 15-25% discounted Gift Card deal, it made for a better deal overall even paying sales tax at BN but not Criterion. Looks like I have to make sure to wipe out my wishlist before the end of July, then hit the Oct Criterion Flash Sale. B&N November Sale has become less critical due to the spacing of the July and Oct offers., but it's still nice to fill in the gaps

Fair points. Although it seemed to me that during the past two or three flash sales, fewer titles were selling out (either Criterion had more stock, or fewer people took part).

I've ordered from Criterion and there was an insert/booklet totally missing. I reached out & they were so friendly and helpful, immediately shipping one to me. I'm not sure B&N would do that.

I have had booklets missing from B&N and Criterion helped me with that. It probably doesn't which to use but I probably should do Criterion more though.

I bought a Criterion from Barnes and Noble, was missing a booklet. I reached out to Criterion and they shipped on right away!

I’ve been through 4 different forwarders, unfortunately the two that were really good aren’t around any more. If you get one that allows storing packages for a long time for free and resides in a tax free state, you can offset some of your international shipping costs through free US shipping, sales tax and consolidating your orders.

But yes, if you pick the wrong one (cough)Viabox(cough) the shipping costs can be horrendous.

Criterion customer service has always been top notch at replacing missing booklets or damaged scanavo cases and outer sleeves. Never had a problem with them.

That's too steep a price - I always choose the cheapest option, without insurance or frills, although it takes far longer for me to receive them. I forwarded two Criterion BDs via MyVipBox a couple of days ago and paid just $15.

Do you think they still have the DVD cases for replacement? I know about getting BDs but I recently bought Fires on the Plain and it had a chunk missing of the top of the case.

I've been tempted to contact them but I don't want to bother them with a simple DVD case since a booklet or slip is more important.

You wouldn’t be bothering them. Definitely reach out. I am sure they have spare DVD cases laying around

How many of you will be forced to double dip on the new 4K release of Pan’s Labyrinth?

...it’s only money.

I have used Shipito quite a bit, there is no way they cost $150 to ship a couple of discs. Unless you got some ridiculous 1 day overnight delivery option.

It was the Zatoichi set, three QI three-season box sets, and Wages of Fear. Paid a membership fee, then a consolidation fee, then a shipping fee which worked out cheaper than shipping the two orders separately. Ended up around $150 Australian. Plus it cost me $40 to ship them from Amazon to Shipito in the first place.

Well there you go, hardly a couple of discs. I have previously ordered 50 odd discs from Kino and it only cost about $63AU to on ship to Melbourne (cheapest uninsured shipping option though, no tracking etc). It really depends on the weight and size of what you are getting. The Zatoichi set is heavy and I am not sure what those three QI box sets are like.

Shipito prices have gone through the roof over the past couple of years. Hardly worth using them anymore.

It's no wonder parcel-forwarding services are ridiculously expensive for some of you guys - you buy a whole bunch of big and heavy stuff all at once, what do you expect?

Yeah, I've started using MyVipBox since March, which has an address in a state that doesn't collect taxes and is slightly cheaper. Better packaging, too. No complaints from me.

It was 5.7 pounds after consolidation (which, once you include the fees to consolidate, saved me a whole five bucks or so).

Shipito also charges GST on the items I'm shipping, and then charges GST again on their shipping prices...it gets ridiculous. And yeah, for US orders it's in a sales-tax state.

EDIT: It was $40 US for shipping, the rest was fees for a total of $65 US. My VIP Box's shipping calculator says it'd be $66 just for the shipping.
