Criterion has two Flash Sales every year: February or March, and October. No reason to think the timings will change.

Can't help you with the rest as I'm not big on supplements myself and they typically don't figure in my decision to buy a specific title.

Is June the month that Criterion will finally announce Denis Villeneuve is joining the Collection? Or is there a better chance they finally make the leap to UHD?

Physical media is dying. I will be shocked if Criterion ever releases a UHD. I hope I'm wrong. But that's how I see it.

Whatever is not on physical media has a higher chance of dying, though.

This is also true. Which is why I still buy physical media. I've slowed down over the years. I used to buy almost anything that caught my eye. Now, I only buy something after I've seen it and only if I believe it's something that I will rewatch. That's why I love The Criterion Channel and other streaming services. But it's a love-hate relationship, because I know that the streaming services I support are killing physical media.

I've discovered Criterion Quest, Lost in Criterion, and Criterion Creeps ( as of this post are up to spines 246, 402, and 199 respectively). Any others did I miss?

Personally if I was tackling such an endeavor I'd be tempted to jump around the spine numbers to review the films best known and most dear to me first.

My friend and I do Criterion on the Couch and we just skip around and pick different movies in the collection. We hit our stride format wise on The Princess Bride episode. We’re not film experts but have fun watching/collecting these movies and talking about them. Would love feedback and comments! Just don’t be cruel

We just finished recording Bull Durham and that should be up in the next week or so.

If you're a Criterion fan, you should be supporting and utilizing The Criterion Channel if you can.

It's an important stream of revenue and, once streaming quality meets or exceeds that of Blu-Ray and/or UHD, physical media will collapse. I love physical media. But if I can watch the same movie on a streaming service with better PQ, I'm not going to buy the disc.

Truthfully, and the unspoken secret is, most people (including me, let's face it) would tolerate slightly worse PQ because the convenience is worth the trade-off.

I like knowing my collection won't randomly disappear due to an expiring licensing deal.

I had to laugh. You said the convenience is worth the trade-off without saying which is which. To me, streaming is much more convenient. Much more. I was watching The Criterion Channel the other night and I decided to watch The Samurai Trilogy, which happens to be streaming right now. But I fetched the Blu-Rays and watched them instead for the improved PQ. It certainly would have been much easier to have watched the trilogy on the Criterion Channel. If the Criterion Channel offered PQ equal or better than that of the Blu-Ray I would have watched it on the channel. No doubt about it.

I agree 100%. And that's why I still buy my favorites. For now. If the quality of streaming surpasses that of physical media it will be harder to justify the additional cost.

I buy them, rip them, put them on my NAS, and have access to them via my Emby server. All the conveniences of streaming with all the security of owning discs.

Yeah, I meant streaming is worth the convenience of a potential trade-off of slightly lower PQ.

What makes streaming so nice is that for less than $8 a month I can watch a great number of Criterion releases and if I really like one then I can buy the Blu-Ray.

So I was going to go watch Pasolini (2014) but I don't know if I need to watch Pasolini's other films before going into this. Do I need to watch some of his films before going into this one? Since most of his films are on Criterion, I decided to ask the Criterion forum instead of Kino.

Called my three local B&N stores today (I'm in MA); all are opening for in-store shopping this Friday. I asked each of them if they had any info on the July Criterion 50% event; two said they did not, and one put me on hold to check before coming back and saying they don't know for certain but they have some indication that July will not happen this year and the next one will be November.

Clearly, this needs corroborating. But I thought it worth posting.
