In 2012, they put out the Pasolini 'Trilogy of Life' in November (along with a stacked month that included the expanded "Heaven's Gate", Godard's "Weekend", and Kurosawa's "Rashomon"), and then in December, put out Godfrey Reggio's "The Qatsi Trilogy" and Rene Clement's "Purple Noon". And, in 2013, they put out the massive 'Zatoichi' set in November and the first 'World Cinema Project' box in December. I fully expect at least November to be pretty stacked, with likely "The Irishman" and possibly one of those big sets (Wong Kar Wai or Fellini) coming out, with a couple of other things, too. Then, we MIGHT possibly see the other big box in December. It's possible. They've had an amazing year this year. ![]() |

They still at least have "Pickup on South Street" and "Thieves Highway". They might have "The Paper Chase" because I know there was Twilight Time's "accidental" announcement and they later said another label had it.

While I love new editions of masterpieces, boy howdy, I'm right there with you on this. I discovered Claudine last year when Ava DuVernay showcased it on her TCM The Essentials segments. I was so stunned by it that I went around recommending it to everyone I thought might care. And seeing Criterion add it to the collection means it's gonna be like a megaphone to that enthusiasm. Love it so much.

Really happy to see more Fox titles being freed from Disney's purgatory! With everyone else officially or unofficially making it clear they don't see future deals with the studio and letting several titles go out of print, I figured Criterion would be the only place to look to for more of their catalog. I recently went through Park Circus's listings for Fox films with 4K DCPs not yet on blu-ray, and wondered which titles might be coming from the label:
Kentucky Pride(1925) The Shamrock Handicap(1926) 7th Heaven(1927) East Side, West Side(1927) Street Angel(1928) Sunnyside Up(1929) Scotland Yard(1930) Surrender(1931) Quick Millions(1931) Me and My Gal(1932) Sherlock Holmes(1932) Hello, Sister!(1933) State Fair(1933) Pilgrimage(1933) The Bowery(1933) The Power and the Glory(1933) Born to be Bad(1934) Curly Top(1935) Heidi(1937) Moontide(1942) A Royal Scandal(1945) Second Chance(1947) Call Northside 777(1948) Unfaithfully Yours(1948) Apartment for Peggy(1948) Thieve's Highway(1949) I Was a Male War Bride(1949) A Ticket to Tomahawk(1950) People Will Talk(1951) The Model and the Marriage Broker(1951) Monkey Business(1952) Way of a Gaucho(1952) Five Fingers(1952) Teenage Rebel(1956) The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit(1956) The Lieutenant Wore Skirts(1956) A Hatful of Rain(1957) The Son of Robin Hood(1958) Fraulein(1958) The Little Savage(1959) Murder, Inc.(1960) Marines, Let's Go(1961) Bachelor Flat(1961) Tender is the Night(1962) The Broken Land(1962) Goodbye, Charlie(1964) The Paper Chase(1973)-originally announced by Twilight Time, cancelled due to being promised to another label, speculated to be Criterion at the time Harry and Tonto(1974) Dirty Mary Crazy Larry(1974) The Crazy World of Julius Vroder(1974) Race with The Devil(1975) The Turning Point(1977) A Wedding(1978) I could see Unfaithfully Yours, Thieve's Highway, Monkey Business, The Paper Chase(for obvious reasons), Harry and Tonto(to go with An Unmarried Woman) and A Wedding. I'd kill for The Turning Point, but I just can't see them considering it, it's a big Oscar prestige flick with some great actors, and would have probably eventually come out through Twilight Time, but it's not the big C's type. A shame, since the more Robert Surtees in HD the better as far as I'm concerned! There's also quite a few re-dos of existing titles, included some not listed there, such as The Longest Day and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but new-to-blu product is probably a bigger priority. Thoughts on the list? |

This site's review of the Universal 4K quotes IMDb that it was shot digitally at 6.5K with a 4K DI. In other words, there's really nothing to "restore"; even if every single hard drive containing the original camera shots and/or DI crashed, Criterion could perfectly "restore" it from the Universal 4K if necessary. The only "improvement" the Criterion could possibly offer is the B&W version; it's likely to have different contrast grading, but a 2K BD can't deliver HDR so they should be thankful the B&W version isn't out on 4K.

Glad to see The Gunfighter (which I love) is out of Disney's purgatory for Fox movies! Will absolutely be picking it up! I think I still have a recording of Claudine, so I'll check that out first!
Never saw Pierrot Le Fou, but just checked and saw that the prices of the old Blu Ray are at a low of $50. |

Given that Signal One had their release in limbo for a couple of years, I imagine that Criterion's deal has been in place for at least the same amount of time and pre-dates the Mouse Takeover. I'm wondering if Claudine has been under license with Criterion for that long as well.

Is the black & white Parasite a different cut of the movie, or just the same movie in B&W?
