New readers who don’t understand the technology (as well as *seasoned 4K video journalists who love to refer to ITU-R BT.2020 in their 4K analysis articles should take the time to view the YouTube clip which I posted on the last page ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ow#post8058695 ), esp. since David led the ITU-R group that agreed to that particular standard, BT.2020. I mean who better to listen to than the father of the progeny.

Indeed Steed, it is no doubt exciting times in display technology if you are into home theater. I expect the next great milestone to be going from prototype 4K OLEDs to consumer available panels in that rez. Then we can all look forward to a long period of time during which bloggers will b*tch about the high prices of those early 4K OLED models and tell us why they won’t be spending their money on such a purchase.

Until then, expect a round of b*tching from the gurus about the limitations of HDMI 2.0.

An entire movie at 4K resolution is only 90 GB? That must look pretty macro-blocky!

Hi singhcr , hope you had a good summer holiday. To your comment, at first thought, one might think so but, since JPEG 2000 does not use a block structure like some other well known codecs, blocking artifacts should not be a problem. Whereas, the critical data rate at which softening artifacts become visible is dependent upon the nature and technical details of the source images.

It has not been announced yet but PS4 will have access to this service also.

It's good that 55 and 65 inch 4K displays are getting more reasonable, pricewise ($4999 and $6999, respectively). I think anything over 32 inches will look better with the greater pixel density of 4K. It will reduce or eliminate the screen-door effect.

No I mean the movies that just got released through Video Unlimited, not the ones preloaded on the server.

That's good to know, thanks for the info.

My summer was mainly work related this year as I was starting a new job and had to relocate to Winnipeg from Minnesota for a time, but I got plenty of soccer games in and trips up to Duluth to do some hiking. Next week hunting season starts so I'm looking forward to some pan fried squirrel.

you will need a lot bigger than 32 inch TV to see any difference with 4K

that is already been proven; even these 55-60 inch tv's are too small to really get a difference

it needs to be much bigger AND you have to be close to get the benefit
