Strange and bizarre. I can see why Blockbuster might want to diversify, and Circuit City is certainly a weak link in the retail chain, but I don't see what BBI gets out of it with respect to their core business, aside from perhaps some extra bargaining leverage with content providers?

Didn't they fail with trying to start a blockbuster music chain and now they want to go into electronics and appliances

Perhaps if they own a retail chain they can just continue to do their rentals out of the same building so that they can close all the rental only stores? Maybe they're afraid of the future and see this as a way of compensating for financial losses...maybe the rentals will just be supplemental.

Maybe they can fix Circuit City, Hopefully it can't get any worse, of course I will probably be eating my words later.

It is not a bad idea to integrate disk rentals, sales and appliances. Interesting.

That's that they said when K-Mart bought Sears. The result turned out to be successful.

(sorry X-TOP, I just read your post)

Blockbuster is actualling reporting a $30 million profit for the last quarter. Blockbuster has a strong promotional relationship with Sony, so I am hoping the deal goes through.

I thought Sears bought Kmart. Either way, I agree with you about CC.

I love Circuit City, they've always treated me better then Best Buy. The other day, my girlfriend's Blu-ray Sharp player has issues, she had it for 5-6 months, didn't want to go through the hassle of waiting for it get fix since it's still under warranty, we brought it to Best Buy, they wouldn't let us exchange it without a receipt, we wanted to get the Panasonic model which is $100 more... Went to Circuit City, they let us do it and since Sharp BD player was selling for $500, we saved money for going to CC!

Circuit City in my opinion has better customer service, salesperson are more knowledgeable, you can negotiate the price where as BB will not budge. I'm all for CC!
