Amazon has confirmed that the Samsung UBD-K8500 is not eligible to be shipped outside the U.S.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A9V6OI6?..._i=13622863011

Panasonic's DMP-UB900 however is eligible for European shipping but this one is more pricey at the UK price of £730 ($1,066) not incl taxes.

That pretty much confirms the Samsung purchase for me. I really am not a fan of Samsung products (lots of phone problems) but I am not paying $1000 for a player. I just wished Sony would put out a 4K player right away.

It strikes me as odd that a lot of these 4K players have DSD support but no Super Audio CD support in them. The chances are that there are more people with DSD content on Super Audio CD then there are with digital files on a HDD.

It's possible on Oppo can offer add Super Audio CD in UltraHD player. I can't tell much price. Likely $1,000

Yeah, if we're lucky. Isn't the current 105D more than that? I'm hoping they'll do one bells and whistles one with everything and a more basic one for mortals. I'm still rocking my BDP80 and I loves it. I'll be keeping it as a SACD player whatever happens I suspect.

On the other hand, if you meant to link some M. Turner (from Technicolor) interview (apologies, as I’ve only read the last page and totally missed a lot of postings on this thread this week) something which should be mentioned but I doubts been published out of anything coming out of CES is that they’ve (Technicolor in L.A.) have had on site and used a professional Sony 4K OLED HDR reference monitor for some time now.

For that professional monitor, peak luminance barely achieves right around 1000 nits, as long as you measure a small enough screen patch.
I thought I corrected the name before I posted it.

The discussion on AV Forum is well worth reading. Hinton (the interviewer) had an off camera discussion with Martin. An excerpt:

"Ron is confident that the Studios and rights holders are better informed and will not allow HDR re-grades just for the sake of it. So I think we can stop worrying for now and see what the outcome is for the next year. He seemed confident that the back catalogue is safe from negative manipulation - even projects where the creatives are long gone."

He says that some studios and rights holders have passed on regrading some properties.

No problem . Given your mindset at the time I think you have a good excuse as in that same post you said and bolded, no less…. “0.0005 to 540 nits is equivalent to a contrast ratio of over 1,000,000:1 (around 20 f-stops)”. Ray , me thinks you’re absolutely reveling in your blacks - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...o#post11121678

Not to burst your or anyone’s bubble but firstly, Ron doesn’t work for a major Hollywood studio and secondly, even from someone of some notoriety that does, we’ve heard such assurances before…..until the filmmaker (a cinematographer) spilled the beans and revealed the real deal…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ve#post9553148

So, I think cinephiles like mike, Geoff, etc. really do have a concern, no matter what’s been claimed….in essence to sell a product and make a profit.

I mean you’re talking about the entertainment business here, which is far less *regulated* than more serious things like the medical device business and look what’s happened there, for instance…..http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health...ilters-n488166

What I find ironic about that excerpt (if the reporting is accurate) is that in the past, BDA spokespersons have been reluctant to speak about much of anything specific regarding studio inner workings often coming out with "Ultimately that is question for the studios" and now all of sudden you have Panasonic Hollywood Labs speaking as to the motivations of the studios?

What are the odds that X-Men DOFP will have branching and include both versions.
Or do they intend to start right off with potential double dips?
DOFP is the only title I would want from the first batch and it may not have the version I prefer.

What will be the Region Codes for the 4K Ultra HD Blu Ray Releases? Will they remain A, B & C like Regular Blu-Rays or has there been a Change?

A lot of Warner and FOX titles are affected. Or did they keep 4K in mind during post-production and created a 4K copy as well for the archives. Hopefully you can find some people who can answer this critical point.

Native content = king.
This is a good question for David Mackenzie. I'll ask him to post here.

It's a very good point and one I'd like to put to them. I imagine that only a very select few prestige titles would ever be re-finished in true 4K and there will be a lot of scaled content.

I'm hoping to talk to someone from the BDA for an HDTVtest article later, and I'll ask this very question.

David, PLEASE ask about the downconversion aspects of the players if you can. HDR is all well and good but there are a LOT of legacy 4K owners out there who would love to know just how well the downconversion to SDR will be performed, whether it can retain the WCG, the bit depth etc.
