Last thing I've lent out was my Redman: Dare is a Darkside CD... It had a red cd case and the book was red so it made the picture have a different effect. When i got it back weeks later the booklet was bent and the case was clear ....
I have NEVER loaned anything again ... I still have it ... clear case and all

edit: forgot to mention this was in 1996

Another story: Since I knew where everything in my collection is located. my sister one time tried to borrow a CD but leave the case on my cd rack until the one day i wanted to listen to it and the case was empty.. She loaned it out .. and to this day over 15 years later .. she still never replaced it.

It's cool, in hindsight, it's not really that serious, unless she messed up the movie, case or slip

Holy crap I still have that case somewhere. When I started putting all of my CDs in a book I contemplated whether I should keep that case or throw it out. I ended up keeping it. The CD disappeared though.

yeah but with the understanding that if it doesn't come back in the same condition, they are buying me a new one. for the most part, i only loan to a few people and they treat them as good as i do so i have no fear of a movie coming back scratched up or damaged.

Wink Lending Blu ray Movies

I am rather anal with all of my stuff, whether it's cars, home theater equipment, my Honda track snowblower or even my gas powered water sprayer. I always take care of anything I purchase and maintain it in mint condition as I take extreme pride of ownership. My mother always told me "never a borrower nor lender be". I believe if you're the type of person that you borrow off friends well what goes around comes around and you should be lending them things that they might want to borrow of yours. For that reason I never borrow off of anyone. I agree with the earlier posters that stated no one will take better care of your purchases than you yourself, so be prepared when you lend something out that it may not come back in pristine condition or in the condition that it was in when you lent it to them.

If you do not wish to lend out your Blu-rays, be honest with your friends and tell them so. If they are truly a friend they will respect your decision and not request to borrow movies from you.

No, no one ever has the same respect for your items as you do.

Simple answer when someone asks to borrow a disc at my place is "Do you see a sign out the front of my house that says DVD and Bluray Hire? Do you know why you didn't see that sign? Because lending and hiring discs aint my business, that's why!"

I loaned Cloverfield to a friend to test out his new surround sound system and I got it back in the same condition as I gave it out.

However, I loaned someone else District 9, got it back, put it on the shelf and forgot about it. Took it out one day and the disk looked like it was sitting bottom-side up collecting dust and drink droplets for months. I forget who I ever loaned it to, but that person ruined it for everyone else.

There are perhaps only 2 people in the world I'll loan a blu-ray to, but apart from that, someone has to come over my place and watch the movie there. That's part of the reason I got a great TV and why I'm working on building up a decent home theater for myself. People will want to watch stuff here instead of taking it home. And I'm always stocked with beer.

I have a co-worker / friend that I loan them out to occasionally but I gave him a long spiel about how careful he needed to be. He has some wild kids so I told him they stay away from them. I told him if it doesnt come back just how it is now, you buy me another one. He hasnt damaged anything but he does seem to hae trouble getting them bakc to me in a timely fashion. I should start charging late fees.

The only problem that I've ever had with lending is that it usually takes awhile to get back to me. I don't really understand it because I'm not the type who is like "You need to see this. Here, borrow this and watch it". Whoever is borrowing a movie asks to borrow it and to me, I assume it means they actually want to watch it within the week.

I've never had anything come back destroyed, so as long it is not some random person on the street, I have no problem lending out. Now that I'm older, I have no problem saying I'd like it back in a week or so.

One guy at work who has become an out of work friend has borrowed some movies and I got a good feeling when he offered me some of his titles in return and even brought his copies in a plastic bag. I have no worries lending to someone like that.

Her: Hi, it's good, you home already? How was your day?
Me: Depends, have you seen Looper?
Her: Yea silly, we watched it together LOL
Me: LOL, you know what I mean
Her: Yea, your mother (her mother) asked to borrow it.
Me: And you gave it to her?
Her: Yes
Me: With the slip?
Her: With the what?
Me: (Sigh) Love you, talk to you later.

This is the same lady who borrowed the Donnie Brasco DVD from me in 2003 & not only has she not watched it yet, she doesn't know where it's at. So I'm on my way to my mother in law's...

Now I feel like I have to take inventory
thank god my old lady knows how much i obsess over my blu rays and wouldnt think of doing such a thing without first asking. if she did i wouldnt call her wife. sounds like you need to lay down the law. at the very least make your woman buy you a new copy with slip and at best you can get a bj while you watch your new copy of looper.

I now pronounce you man and blu ray. You may now kiss the blu ray.

That's how I read it sometimes in this thread. Guys leaving their Wives/GFs over this for that.

I don't loan anything. I loaned some books to my best friend all through our school years and some I got back ruined and some I never saw again. So since then, I don't loan anything. I don't even let my wife take my movies anywhere because I've seen how she treats her own movies.
