Then I don't think whoever borrowed it want to return it anytime soon. A very good reason why I don't lend out any of my movies. Most of the time you either don't get it back or if it is return the disc ends up being scratch or worst.

Default Lending blu-ray discs

I have no problem lending blu-rays or dvd's to anyone. Two weeks ago I loaned twenty blu-rays to a friend at work. I would loan out my player if someone asked to borrow it.

Depends on how expensive it is to replace. I mean if the replacement cost is like $100, then no way Jose.

I don't ask to borrow and my friends don't axe me.

Your hungry or your kid needs medicine I am all over it. But nobody "needs" to borrow personal items.
Agree.

-only mutual renting has worked out for me: they give me a blu, i give them a blu

-or: i'll tell a friend "i need it back in X days, or i can't rent to you again. its happened before with others. i dont mean to be a di@k, but i've spent over $_K on my collection, i know you understand"....if i dont see the disk in X days, they will never borrow from me again. no exceptions. they had their shot and were warned. plus, i'lll only give this to close close friends, to others i just say "sorry, cant do it" or "which movie?? oh i watch that a lot"

Used to loan DVD's, but some friends didn't take care of 'em. So, no more. If they want to watch something they can come over and watch at my home.

Wow...You are a MUCH more sharing person than I Beta

Depending on the friend, if I knew they'd take care of the discs and not leave it in their car for a few days, let their little kids play with it (I have some some friends who would...), etc., I'd let them borrow a movie with no qualms.

My player (PS3) however, I would NEVER loan it out. I dropped $400 and that sucker isn't going anywhere but the shelf it is sitting on now. One of my friends even asked once....

But that's just me.

I only loan my blu-rays out to close friends who have a history of an organized lifestyle. I hate it when someone has to look for it when I request it back I like all my items returned in mint condition without a scratch.

Hell to the no.
Here is my explaination, as if I really need one:

I collect movies for a hobby. My home theater is my interest and outlet. It's simply what I do and what I'm interested in. I collect films from all genres, however, Kung Fu titles are my absolute fav. When a "friend" comes over, and shows interest in the fact that I have a number of titles, they are more than welcome to sit and enjoy here with me. As far as requesting to "borrow" from my collection-that's a no-no, for it was me who went through the expenses of acquiring these items. If they were that interested, they could have done the same. That's what Blockbuster, Netflix, Redbox, etc. is for.
What really gets me is when someone asks, simply "because you have so many". They have no intention of returning, or if they do-your goods come back damaged.
I had a young lady I dated ask me if she could take a couple of my films home with her... Mind you, she really didn't like watching movies, and had maybe a total of 4-5 at her house. When I told her "no, but you can watch them here", she called me selfish. I stopped seeing her shortly after.

I do let family borrow my Blu's , of course there is only one family member that has blu besides me . But before they leave with it , I take i to my pc along with them and enter it into DVD Profiler so I can keep track of who has one of my disc and how long .

Of course. Just lent out Iron Maiden - Flight 666 last night to a guy who has more BD's than I do. I care about my stuff but I don't worship them. I can't tell you how many Dream Theater - Images and Words comact disc's i've purchased over the last 17 years. Either I loaned it out to someone and they wanted a copy so I gave it to them and purchased another or it got scratched and I had to get another. Thank heaven for MP3 players nowadays!

I'm not worried about my BD's getting scratched as the protective layer seems to hold up rather well. Glad we don't have to deal with the whole HD-DVD technology mess this time around that's the same ole same ole scratch-arama.

Media is meant to be USED and ABUSED
