I do sometimes, but not when people ask. I think that's really rude. I myself would never ask somebody for something that I could just buy or rent myself. In this day and age, it's easier than ever to see a movie or TV show. If they are too lazy to make the slightest effort, or if they don't want to pay for the program, they must not want to see it all that much.

Somebody recently went out of their way to ask me to bring Game of Thrones Season 1 over. I hate when people think they are entitled to borrow my movies just because I have a large collection, especially people who are big into piracy and think I'm a moron for buying movies. Apparently I'm no longer a chump when I have something they want to see.

Hear, hear!! I couldn't agree more. On top of that what really chaps me is when after they ask and can see that I'm reluctant to give them a loaner blu-ray, they act offended and get pissed. Totally selfish behavior.

I used to have roommates like that; After one of them used my snapper case of "Dog Day Afternoon" as a coaster, I ended up moving all my movies into my bedroom where they couldn't get at them. I wasn't too popular with them after that, but at that point, the gloves had come off. One of them was particularly obnoxious and his sense of entitlement was unbelievable.

I learned my lesson during the days of DVD. When I lent 'em out, they rarely came back.
So now, no more ever again.

I only lend it to two of my closest friends whom I've known for more than ten years. And who knows how to take care of discs.

I only lend them to my mom, 2 co workers and 1-2 friends. I know my mom and the co workers are good for replacing if anything happens, and the friends never ask, so it's not an issue.

Funny enough, when I'm asked if I have x Movie, "yeah, I have the blu ray for it".. "oh. nevermind, I dont have blu ray" .... "do you have a HDTV?" "yes" *blank stare*

No.
They can see my movies at my place, or at theirs, when I am there, if they have blu-ray player/PS3 but no loaning. And I never borrow movies from anyone even if it's that person's idea.

"yeah, I have the blu ray for it".. "oh. nevermind, I dont have blu ray" ....

I'm familiar with this situation I know only two people with PS3 and not even one with BD-player.

I've lent my car to a mate so it would seem a bit strange not lending them an £8 film.

if people dont know what you got they cant ask, also dont mention things you have bought. my collection is locked away so thats fine. I know too many people that just leave discs laying arounf out of cases, i dont mean one or two, stacks of them, it would seem that there are a lot of careless people out there.

That's out of order. I've had a similar experience. It made me so angry. I had a right go at my Dad once for wrecking a BD. I'd lent it to my brother and then my Dad got his hands on it! We ended up having an argument and he blamed me saying it was all my fault. After that I don't lend mine out any more. I felt like hitting my Dad because he showed no consideration even after the fact.

That's why I like Triple plays. I don't mind lending the DVD. If I'd have been you I'd have probably punched his lights out in a fit of rage. That's taking the P*** big time!

I would NEVER loan discs to some of my friends while I do to others. But when I do I never give them the original case but use a spare case instead.

I do that now aswell when I lend a DVD out from a triple pack. I recently lent Predators to a mate on DVD in a spare case. It came back in perfect condition,the way it went out. I've learnt my lesson.

If a friend or family member wants to borrow a movie, it is selfish not to lend it to them. I can understand not lending to some co-worker that will most likely never return it, but it's a bit weird to not lend movies to close ones if they ask. The good thing about Blu-rays is that they rarely scratch so I dont see what the problem is unless you are a nutty collector that gets crazy if the packaging gets a bit bumped up during the exchange. Traditionally, videos on display are more like books, records, CDs - aka "meant to be shared if someone asks" - rather than being treated like precious sealed action figures.

I personally don't like lending out movies but I would feel like it's wrong to not lend something out if a friend/family member wanted it. Just because someone had a bad experience lending to one person, it shouldnt be applied to others that want to borrow. It's like a dude having a bad relationship with one woman and then say "all women are evil, love doesnt exist, im not gonna trust any one again, etc."

I'm always apprehensive to loan out blus just to anyone. But.....Right now, my brother has a good 15 movies of mine that he still hasn't watched. He's probably had them a month too. I want them back, just because they're mine, but I know I'll get them back in pristine condition, as always.

I loaned one of my employees the entire Battlestar Galactica series and every disk came back with fingerprints on them. When I told her that I didn't appreciate it, she went out and spent some pretty good bucks on a really nice disk cleaner set, then asked for them back to clean each and every disk. Thats exactly what she did too. Ah, the pleasures of being the boss

Now that I think about it, I should loan out my movies to all my employees. When they come back all jacked up, I just tell them I don't appreciate it. In turn, I get the steelbook version, special edition, etc. in return. What a racket that would be. That would be rotten too, but damn, it'll probably work.

I loan my blus out to people that care for them, without hesitation.

meant to be shared? I wouldnt agree with that in the slightest, id open up a video rental service if i felt that way.

I can see your not fussed about cases coming back a bit banged up?

I agree with you that some people look after stuff, but if someones been burned then generally they are more weary in the future, I guess nothing bothers you after its happend you just move on

Funny you mention this, one guy who I had to rip dubs for cuz he's so bad with discs, but I have no issue leaving him our car when we go out of town. Half the time he drives us to the airport. Thing is, he never ****s up the car, but has hurt most discs. He can drive fine, but can't load a dvd player!

Just to the people that are real friends (and I'm not talking about imaginary haha) and that I know will handle them with care...which means only very few people. There's no reason not to share the love of blu-ray, especially when you want somebody to be introduced into a new movie.

When I loan something to someone, I always say, "Just don't put me in the uncomfortable position to have to ask for it back."

Meaning, I'm tired of people borrowing my movies and never returning them. I let them know, yeah, you can borrow this, but you better watch it and bring it back. I don't want to have to feel like a douche asking for you to return it.

No, I wouldnt mind getting a bluray case banged up. Actually, if it had a slipcover, i would probably just keep the slipcover and give out the regular case to borrow.

Once again. It's how you perceive your collection. I see my collection as books. Can you imagine rejecting someone that wanted to borrow a book off my shelf? It would be really weird.
