I think this is the biggest reason why people don't want to loan out BD's, peoples complete disregard for other peoples feelings and disrespect for their belongings. I've had friends give my stuff away to guys who wouldn't even give me the time of day (which really pissed me off) and record over VHS movies by sticking tape over the copy protect slot.

I don't lend out a lot of stuff as I know I'll be upset if it doesn't come back in one-piece. I'd lend anything to my brother though as I have his Stargate Atlantis boxset!

Old post but you are not alone there. I too return stuff quick and hate it when people dally. I almost fell out with a co-worker over returning one of my movies and I let my sister see one and two week later I asked her how she liked it and she said "what movie" and then didn't know where it was. If I do lend a blu or dvd out I tell folks that it's just like renting from a store as you have to have it back sooner than later.

I have a hard time letting my kids take my Blu-rays into another room in the house to watch unsupervised, so I'm going to go with, "No".

Anyway, I don't lend BD to my friends. They would need to be equipped for that.

I did lend some CDs / DVDs back then, to some close friends or family. Never had an issue. I always tell them "that's the only stuff I pay high enough to be careful with, just be careful too, it's not cheap". They always understood the message.

I know what I'm going to do from now on. In order to borrow a movie from me the said borrower will before hand be required to read each and every post in this thread out loud. I'm pretty sure that will get the point across.

I let my friend barrow the Titanic 3D Blu-ray the day before Thanksgiving. It was the first time I ever loaned one to a friend. And it's till not back yet.

I did once. Basically, it was a movie I thought he would enjoy and I gave him the benefit of the doubt he would return it. He didn't. Eventually I got tired of asking for it back, and that's how I learned my lesson: no more lending.

I find it easy to say no to people. I'll give them my reasons for why they cannot borrow them. And that's it, I don't explain myself further.

So I just got home from work & I'm putting up the movies I just bought & for some strange reason, notice the Looper is missing. So I call the Mrs.

I'm paraphrasing here.

Me: Hey baby, how's your day.
Her: Hi, it's good, you home already? How was your day?
Me: Depends, have you seen Looper?
Her: Yea silly, we watched it together LOL
Me: LOL, you know what I mean
Her: Yea, your mother (her mother) asked to borrow it.
Me: And you gave it to her?
Her: Yes
Me: With the slip?
Her: With the what?
Me: (Sigh) Love you, talk to you later.

This is the same lady who borrowed the Donnie Brasco DVD from me in 2003 & not only has she not watched it yet, she doesn't know where it's at. So I'm on my way to my mother in law's...

Now I feel like I have to take inventory

When living in Papua New Guinea, I'm the only person that I personally know who actually has a blu-ray player. So if someone wants to borrow one, all I say is that I don't have it on DVD.
