At a later date, I’ll get more into the technical aspects of the 3D of Hugo, things which are not mentioned in the article, which I quickly skimmed….such as, that a tiny bit was actually converted and nitpicking things like....what (during 3D principal photography) can later cause slight ghosting even on a theatrical exhibition level, not to worry though, as it’s really not such a big deal with this motion picture, more of an observation I made while critically looking for the presence of any anomalies.

Overall, the 3D is very well done and I think general audiences will be quite pleased with it. Hopefully, it will serve as an early milestone in modern 3D filmmaking.
Geezer’, are you still alive and kicking?
Although there is CG, like for instance, with snow augmentation, Hugo really isn’t an animation film per se, if that’s what you’re thinking.

Well, in case you missed it. I posted a link to this before, regarding the workflow –
http://www.hdvideopro.com/technology...g-up-aces.html

I’ll add the fact that the F65 camera system is the first camera to be designed from the ground up to support the Academy IIF-ACES.

Penton,

Can you tell me when my car will eventually crap out?
While you're at it, can you tell me when the next natural disaster to strike the Eastern seaboard will happen? Heck, if you're so inclined can you divulge when our sun will go supernova? All these things have me up at night sweating bullets!!

Thanks in advance,
~A CONCERNed TROLLey car operator

Could that even impact services that offer hq streaming (if they exist) in my opinion. It seems like a concern that a few people have at the moment.
Why is it this moment that are they having a concern? Webm has been around for at least a year. The only reason it exists is to get around h.264 patent encumbrances, mainly so free and open source web browsers can support HTML5 video streaming. Anything from larger studios that you actually pay money for wouldn't need to use it.

Last I checked, nobody actually wants to use webm; it's just that some developers have to in order to keep their products free and open, and has a side benefit of providing a small touch of competition to h.264, just in case.

Rick, no need for such nastiness. i was merely asking about a newish video codec that i understand is competing with h.264. I do not work in the industry so i don't have a huge understanding of the technical side of things. That is why people ask questions. To find out information.

Yup. But thanks to Doctorossi's quote, I now realize I accidentally got a couple words out of order after I rephrased that sentence... :/

You gotta admit, you do tend to err on the side of bitrate panic. This one was easy since webm has little to do with the film industry. It's unfortunate everything revolves around h.264, since it's kind of an old codec at this point.

Btw, I was recently gifted an album (by agent whiskers, pretty good electronica, has a bit of a soundtrack feel) on bandcamp.com and noticed the site supports up to 32-bit 192 KHz FLAC and immediately thought of you. Don't know if anyone's actually put up music at those rates, but it's nice to know it's possible.

Nastiness? I'm not following you?
I don't work in the science industry, thusly my concern about the sun going supernova! I know it's going to happen, just not sure when...so I came here hoping to assuage my concerns!
Oh I understand people ask questions...which is what I'm doing! No need to get nasty!

Androvsky, i have already came across a splendid site for high quality music. It is most encouraging to see sites like that appearing. Needless to say i am a purist for music also. After all, no point in owning hq equipment if i feed it crap, right?

It's a banner week for me! As of this Tuesday just passed, a full half of my personal top 20 list of feature films is now available on BD (and in my possession, needless to say).

10 down; 10 to go. Whoopee!

Nice! You're a lucky man. How are your hopes/expectations of seeing #20 appear any time soon?

Quick note as it’s a busy day for me with an event this evening. Heads-up….

Due to the recent flooding in Thailand - http://www.marketwatch.com/story/tha...ces-2011-10-29 - also, if you’re in the need for a hard drive (for back-up, etc.) at home, don’t wait until the Holidays to purchase, as a well known local retailer in my area has raised (and continues almost on a weekly basis) to raise their prices (both in-store and online).

Problem is, word is out, and some hoarding is already taking place at retailer outlets, so act fast if this is something on your ‘to do’ list. Picked up an external drive last night at BB for my wife, as she needed a back-up for work related material.

Last edited by Penton-Man; 11-10-2011 at 11:01 PM. Reason: added a couple words for clarity

Waiting on Westworld. Not exactly high art, but a film that stuck with me since childhood. Was always into 'twilight zone' style themes and the film was right up my street.

To say i am pleased about Jaws next year is an understatement.

You can stop worrying about this one. The answer is: Never.
The sun would need to have a minimum of eight times its current mass for it to go supernova (Type II).
