Cashgrab or not, the important issue is making enough money to ensure more 3d projects are pumped out and 3d becomes a viable format for many years down the line. If star wars helps that objective fantastic. The whole industry is based on profits jusy like any other business so what is the big deal?

What do you make of this photography technology? Light field capture?

"a whole new kind of camera that works by recording all available light in any particular scene"

So, wait... this camera records the light on the subject?! Weird!

Well, the quote is all the light in a scene, which is different. It's also not actually what the camera does, but they have to describe it somehow.

Hey Rick,
Given the fact that last night the Ravens kicked Steeler butt again for the second time this year and your wife is an avid Steeler fan. In the hope she will get over it by this evening and make dinner for you (unlike after their first devastating loss ), tell her Penton sends his heart-felt condolences….

Which reminds me, the most anticipated motion picture that my family and I are looking forward to watching this Holiday season (I know, I know, I may have a built-in bias as a horse owner and lover….
https://forum.blu-ray.com/2871482-post12384.html )

would be this upcoming 2D Steven Spielberg motion picture (with a 4k pedigree) about a helluva a horse…

Well, I guess it depends on what your individual needs/desires may be. Personally, the largest stumbling block for me is the wide disparity between the sensor resolution and the final image resolution.

Most astute photogs who have been following this technology believe that these type of cameras under the best circumstances, resolved about 1/3 of the sensor resolution in the final image and more importantly, in most cases, resolved only about 1/10 of the sensor resolution.

So, that would put the final image resolution of the Lyto 11-megaray at around 1k x 1k. If you find that yield acceptable for your needs…then go for it.

Penton, you know all the right things to say at just the right times! That was great! The wife got a kick out of it!
Yes the loss was a tough one for her, and it does get worse: on accident she wore a dark purple sweater into work today. I got a very somber text early this a.m. as she didn't even realize it until coworkers couldn't pass up the taunting!
Will I get the same thoughtful treatment tomorrow is my Eagles choke tonight??
Again, thanks so much for the post...although it did not help with dinner!

^ What can I say? I’ll just pass on my Surgeon’s advice to you – “Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar, well, it eats you!” from...https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post5103150

Along with an explanation, in case you never understood that cryptic sounding line uttered by Sam Elliott in The Big Lebowski….it’s his western/cowboy (I guess some would say southern) twang for the word ‘bear’ which, as a fan, I first heard uttered here by the mountain man portrayed by John Huston….

ole geezer, this article from the event has numerous fine quotable statements by Marty S. for you to use in your 3D advocacy during trench warfare with the 3D haters. Too good not to share with you and others…..

http://www.today3d.com/2011/11/marti...s-endless.html

At a later date, I’ll get more into the technical aspects of the 3D of Hugo, things which are not mentioned in the article, which I quickly skimmed….such as, that a tiny bit was actually converted and nitpicking things like....what (during 3D principal photography) can later cause slight ghosting even on a theatrical exhibition level, not to worry though, as it’s really not such a big deal with this motion picture, more of an observation I made while critically looking for the presence of any anomalies.

Overall, the 3D is very well done and I think general audiences will be quite pleased with it. Hopefully, it will serve as an early milestone in modern 3D filmmaking.

Hi penton-man, i was wondering what your take on the emerging video codec vp8 (webm) is and if you believe it could have a negative effect on high quality video? If this format became the standard would it mean the end for high quality full hd? At the moment it is a format war between h.264 and webm for web based video but the implications for bluray and maybe even ultraviolet (in my opinion) could be disastrous.

I am referring to a format that could be used for all web based video including VOD and connected tv content. Webm operates at the baseline level which means no main or high profile unlike h.264. Now if this format was adopted i wondered what impact it would have on firstly ultraviolet, as the specs for that use h.264 and bluray afaik webm cannot handle such high bitrates. Could that even impact services that offer hq streaming (if they exist) in my opinion. It seems like a concern that a few people have at the moment.

Well, where the heck have you been ol’ friend ? and what makes you so interested in J.S. 24?

Last photo I posted from the lot was taken from the stage used for The Amazing Spider-Man set awhile back…
https://forum.blu-ray.com/insider-di...ml#post4453037

and that’s a lot larger than measly J.S. 24 or 23 for that matter….although the *screen* was green.

Are you a fan? –

I don’t have any take because I simply don’t follow vp8.

I've been lurking the whole time.Getting married next year, so ive been working like a maniac. As for J.S 24, It is the only screening room I can think of missing from SonyStudios website.I like the Anthony Quinn theater a lot.Jimmy Stewart is one of my all time favorite actors, so I thought maybe his was the very best, hence no photos.
