Azumi, form a French person's perspective living in the US (me ), it is rather funny to see the media this morning describing Marion as the "newbie actress" when we have been following her since the mid 90's, and specially her noticed "big movie" debuts in Taxi alongside Sammy Naceri (she had been in 2-3 smaller films previously).
Kinda strange to call her a newcomer also, when she has appeared (not in leading roles though) in both Big Fish and A Very Long Engagement, not to mention A Good Year ...

Great year for a very deserving actress, with both the Bafta, the Cesar -and- the Oscar for Best Actress !

Many people are turned off by the Academy Awards
apparently. Nothing else, but re-runs either.

I'm one of them... I watched a few minutes, but only because NASCAR was on Fox and of the two NASCAR bores me more (I wanted a Family Guy, Simpsons, and/or American Dad rerun, dagnabbit!). I eventually played a game on my PC until 10pm EST when Adult Swim starts up.

As for the political jokes, I didn't see them, but I'm not surprised. I think there's a time and a place for everything and that was the wrong time and place. No need to start a fire-storm over it, however, I'll just mope because Juno didn't get squat and that was the only film other than Ratatouille<sp> that I saw last year that had a chance at winning anything.

Penton,
According to High Def Digest,
Paramount has put out some sort of release details embargo until March 4th.

I wonder if that is when we can expect them to make their intentions official.

What do you think?

They had a big cocktail party and all that to end it too.
Thats what i like to hear!

Renfro wasn't an Academy member, and the yearly remembrance is dedicated only to those, if I remember correctly...

Really? I didn't hear this! Cool! I still didn't see the other movies, though.

Yeah, the girl who wrote it gave a nice acceptance speech too. Being her first film, she thanks the other nominees for teacher her everything she knows. And as a former stripper... soryy, 'exotic dancer', she thanked her parents and family for always loving her for who she is.

And of course, mentioned how wonderful Ellen Page is.

In regards to our previous discussion regarding fourth and fifth generation optical technologies that could someday surpass Blu-ray (before downloading of high definition movies ever becomes mainstream), I hope that the recent Y. Kawata referral (from Shizuoka University) came in handy.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=1351

I see that the Director of your lab/program was recently quoted in an online article about Blu-ray, the past high-def optical disc war, etc. Send her a smile from me.

This may also be of some interest to you ……..

Thank you for all the extra info Just wondering, what all background do you have in the technical R&D aspects of optical storage? Most of your posts on here tend to be on the business end of everything (that is what you are asked about most often), but I'm wondering if the scientific aspect is something in which you have a bit of background, or just something learned through time.

Also, yea, my blu friends and I (we recently convinced a friend's wife into letting him get a new TV and Blu-ray w/ 5 seconds of Planet Earth) were pleasantly surprised to see a Yellow Jacket quoted!

I think you could say a little bit of both.

There are already LCD panels out there that support 4:4:4.
I also know of one manufacturer, off hand that has 10 bit drivers in their LCD displays.
So, hopefully by the time these increase in size and become consumer friendly in price, we can have the next generation of consumer packaged media (optical disc?) speced for something that is even closer to the film masters.
I get a kick out of some people discussing 4K displays in terms of the home theater experience (i.e. movies) because I would not hold your breath for distribution of 4K consumer movies, in any shape or form.

I didn’t think it was pretentious at all with everyone expressing genuine emotions while on camera. My favorite host is and probably for a long time will be Billy Crystal but, I think that Jon Stewart did a good job. I also like the acoustics at Kodak much more than Staples (venue for the last Grammys).

The most moving moment for me was when Robert Boyle gave his acceptance speech for his Honorary Award.
I just hope that my mind is sharp as a tack like his is at that age.

Another classy moment was when Jon Stewart brought Marketa Irgiova (Best Original Song with Glen Hansard) back out again to give her acceptance speech because she was abruptly cut off by the orchestra prematurely the first time. She didn’t disappoint with her words nor her emotion. B.T.W., I don’t know if any mentioned it but she received a congratulatory text message from U2’s Bono.

Hey Penton,

I know this might be a little hard for you to answer, but do you happen to have any info on release dates for Paramount titles? There has been quite a bit of debate on the "other" forums on what their intentions are.
