42" LG C2 will get OLED EX panels after the second quarter

Quote:
You may want to wait to buy the first 42-inch OLED TV on the market as current samples use an older panel. LG confirms that it will start applying WBE (OLED EX) panels soon.

Sam, I just returned your PM inquiry with an answer, check for details, the tracks are complicated, but the outline for each may be beneficial to understanding. As an aside, Apple is pursuing yet another microLED pathway.

After seeing those differences I am sort of on a ‘wait and see’ approach. Between ‘standard’ microLED and microLED that uses QD tech, what will be the disadvantages and advantages of each? Will the modular design of the ‘standard’ methodology have those visible ‘seams’ that were apparent in some of the models due to the modular approach? Will the QD approach have better color volume? Which one will last longer? Is shadow detail going be affected depending on which tech is being used? Which one will be brighter? Which one will be more available to consumers in affordable/practical sizes (i.e. anything below 90”)?

Both definitely look interesting. Although i get the feeling Samsung Displays Corp. is leaning to using QD tech more because it’s easier for them to switch to mass production of ‘microLED-QD’ displays from their current QD OLED manufacturing by using the QD approach (thus making it cheaper), rather than because it is the better all around tech approach.

I think there is still no tech that has potential to be display killer of anything else. Even WOLED looks to still have a market for 5+ more years in LG and chinese brands going forward as a 1000$ price point.

These things will always be tiered into markets to milk every possible one. It's not in their interest to find the far and away best technology, but to "push the envelope" artificially on them all by having these mini arms races for specs they can market to generic consumers with jargon buzzwords.

Ultimately, we win, too... but we don't win BIG.

Check out our 11:30am Friday, April 15th podcast at our a/v showroom. We'll be showcasing LG's 2022 C2 and G2 OLED TVs.

We'll be moderating for any Q&A.

We'll also briefly show 2021 C1, Sony A90J Master Series, Samsung's 98" QN90A, Sony's 75X95J, and Hisense's PX1-PRO with the Dolby Vision HDR Firmware Update on our 100" UST/ALR Screen will be in our main TV Showroom, and a peak at our adjacent dedicated theater demo room.

Looks like finally Samsung are back and it could be a LCD/WOLED killer. Will be interesting to see how LG responds but it seems like LG are already in a bit of trouble. The only thing that will help LG is larger screen sizes and being an established tech.

Classy's latest video:

https://www.youtube.com/supported_br...tube.com/watch

I don't follow FOMO much but I would kind of agree with him in his recent video.

https://www.youtube.com/supported_br...tube.com/watch

What's weird is couple of owners have mentioned that the QD-OLED looks better at an angle than straight on.

Hoping we will see screen sizes > 65 next year.

Samsung are back? They were never there to begin with. Terrible TVs that sacrifice accuracy for "pop" (ugh), which is of coursh why they're so popular with the masses.

I meant they have come up with something that can dominate other panel tech.

As per Vincent, the S95B looks to deviate from the EOTF curve only by a smaller extent.

If Samsung panels track the EOTF curve too closely they will alienate their main demo

It looks obvious to me that part of the hype, is because Samsung is pushing the colors/brightness too much...

That undefeatable dynamic tone mapping kills reference image quality

Don't know why you should be happy about it
