That makes no sense. The "discoloration" is INTERNAL to the disc.

yes, I've read the entire thread -- and read lots of speculative nonsense that doesn't stand to reason and facts.

If THAT nonsense made sense ALL discs would be "discolored" by their IMPERVIOUS association with color-printed paper.

No shades of grey with you, it's just ALL on NONE. Couldn't possibly. Blah blah blah.

Nope. Read the ENTIRE thread CRITICALLY. There is any number of speculations that have NOTHNIG to do with the disc. NOTHING to do with the fact taht the disc corruption is INTERNAL.

Or did you attempt to clean the bronzing "off" the outside of the disc because someone said they are suspicious other OTHER than that AND the tracing of defective manufacture to specific pressing plants?

But -- yeah: if only the blu-ray cases were GREY; then we wouldn't have the color BLUE to blame.

Yup, CRITICALLY, but not very CLOSELY. And making it up as you go along too.

Gee, if I just think critically then my beliefs are always correct and you’re always wrong.

Read the ENTIRE thread. There is no more close examination of this issue than focusing on the tiny numbers at the hub, and tracing those to pressing plants which show them as the culprits.

The defects are INTERNAL; they have nothing to do with external materials such as paper.

Stop the Stupid.

That's not how critical thinking works. What it does it stick to the evidence, the facts, and reject speculative nonsense which misses those points of reality.

Apparently reading comprehension has become a thing of the past. I never said the discs themselves were not defective, JNagarya. ¿Comprende?

Anyway I will stop the stupid, as you obviously have nothing to offer, so welcome to my ignore list

I have nothing to offer? READ the ENTIRE thread: the defective discs were traced to particular pressing plants. THAT is how one determines the issue: by dealing with the issue.

You remind of pseudo-audiophiles who known nothing about the basics of recording technology and techniques and can't even get the technical terms for those straight. They have nothing to learn because they were born knowing it all, therefore the first idea that pops into their heads is the last idea to do so.

Whatever I remind you of just shows how clueless you are. And this and all your other posts aimed at me show how little reading comprehension you have as I said several times I HAVE READ THE ENTIRE THREAD. Back to ignoring you. (The ignore list works pretty well, so see ya, have a good life.)

I haven't made anything up: I simply point to the information developed by others who pinned down the facts of defective discs being manufactured by specific pressing plants.

"Roll your eyes" all you want -- that won't get you to where you should want to go, which is reliance on those FACTS.

Personal attack noted. The alternative are the facts which substantiate that the the defective discs are tracked to specific manufacturing plants. The defect is in the manufacture, not in the external packaging.

Try attending to those facts instead of wasting bandwidth by attacking me for urgining you to adhere to the facts and thus MAKE SENSE.

How good is VSO Inspector at recognizing rot? I did a surface scan and later file scan on various Criterion discs I purchased in 2009/2010 whose pressings coincide with the worst of the rotters. Every single disc checks out without errors. They are all 10K6 and 10K7. Granted most of these, if I hold them under a cell phone light under an angle, I can some some mild patchy cloudiness that without light I would otherwise not see. It's not the design of the label, in case anyone asks.

Grindhouse - Canadian release from Alliance. Purchased on release back in 2010. The movie disc no longer works. Special features disc still works fine (I would rather it have been the other way around). I also encountered another person on Reddit whose disc no longer works as well. I tried it on three players:

Panasonic DP-UB420K - Player makes a lot of noise while trying to load the disc and then gives the error message: "Cannot read disc". I've never had this happen with any other disc.
LG BPM55 - Shows it as "data disc" on the home screen but does not load the disc or give any further information when I try to play it.
PS3 - The disc does not load at all, nor does it show up on the "video" section of the home screen.

There is no bronzing or any physical anomaly present on the data side of the disc. I was curious to see if anybody else had an issue, and maybe others can check their disc. Unfortunately, this release is now OOP. I was hoping to order a new replacement; while it's still showing as in print in the US, multiple users on here and on Amazon recently report receiving separate movie discs for "Death Proof" and "Plant Terror" instead of the Grindhouse double feature disc w/ special features disc as it is supposed to be.

My copy of Black Bread (Pan Negre) (2010) from Spain is no longer playing.

Haven't watched since I first purchased it back 2011 and now it won't play on any of my Region B machines. Given that this site states that the disc is region free I tested it on Region A locked player and no go either.

The disc itself looks perfectly fine. I cleaned it anyway but it made no difference.

Has anyone had issues with the 2008 release of Face Off. I bought a used US copy off EBay and the movie plays till around 1hr 30mins then freezes. You can’t skip a chapter manually and the chapter selection will not play past this point either. If you try to select a point after this the disc just reloads and goes back to the main menu again. The seller said he tried it and it 100% works for him and said my players firmware must be out of date despite the fact that it isn’t and every other disc I throw at it works perfectly. I tried it in my other player and the same thing happens. He also says it as a brand new disc played once but it hails from 2008 so I doubt it was made recently. There are no visible imperfections on the disc surface.

^ I watched it a year or two ago, and while it played through and never froze from beginning to end, it was doing a weird thing where during some of the cuts it looked like you could see a splice or some glitch for a split second at the top of the screen.

Kino is doing a 4K, so I'm not too worried about it.

There were two glitches before it froze completely. I very much doubt it’s a firmware issue as the seller said. Sounds like BS to me. More like an old disc which has sat on a shelf for years and gone bad.
I must admit this needs a new scan. The transfer was rather dated and sound (which was rather good I must admit for a lossy DTS ES mix) could do with being uncompressed.
