(Me I keep meaning to get through the rest, but just don't quite make it. Maybe tonight I'll get to another one. Coincidentally, Monsoon Wedding was the last I watched a few weeks ago and it played fine... still have a few supplements to get through yet though. (And I did get replacements for all the "listed" titles a while back).)
Thanks, I'll bug mulvaney come monday and send them in then... I have the famed "Kagemusah" one that glitches out at the 1 hour 19 minute mark, but no signs of bronzing, some that bronzed and others that look like they MIGHT be bronzing, all from the same ID code batch

I finally emailed Mulvaney today, and I'm getting my replacements ASAP. A Christmas Tale was on hold.

The German BD of Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil. It glitched up during the opening studio logos as the disc booted up. Then, towards the end for a second, it glitched. I was worried it be like the U.S. discs for Saw II and Saw IV.

Terrible customer service.
They finally agreed to ship a replacement disc! Granted, I had to send six emails, each more exasperated than the last, and that was over a month ago. But it's the thought that counts.

With that said, please also add The Right Stuff on Blu-ray (Digibook) to the Warner Bros. section.

Early copies had an issue with the audio of the Blu-ray disc (48kHz). There is a replacement program in place to receive a new, properly encoded copy at 96kHz.

You can use this form to request a corrected disc: http://www.warnerbros.com/customer-service

Here is what I sent via the link above:

Hello, I purchased The Right Stuff on Blu-ray (Digibook) around the time it was first released and only now realized that there was an issue with the audio of the Blu-ray disc (48kHz). As I understand, there is a replacement program in place to receive a new, properly encoded copy at 96kHz. I would like to receive this disc if possible. Thank you.

Reply I received via email:

Dear Mr. XXXX:

I would be more than happy to help you with this issue. Please respond with your address, and I will then send you the corrected disc. I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support of Warner Home Video products.

Kind regards,

Sherri Bogard
Warner Bros. Customer Service

After supplying my mailing address, I received the corrected disc a few weeks later.

ok so I have a question and am hoping I can get some opinions--

seems like the only blu rays I've had issues with are early Lionsgate titles-- House of 1000 Corpses died on me and I replaced it with the double feature disc of that with Devil's Rejects.

Now my Punisher blu ray is dead as well--

These early titles are still available to buy at this time--- while I realize the transfer and PQ quality will be the same, would the pressings be better now?
In other words, if I buy THE PUNISHER again would it be less likely to go bad or would it be the same situation?

Looked at this thread the other day and noticed that Bigger than Life is on there as a potential defective title. I got my Bigger than Life blu-ray out and noticed that indeed it has yellowing/bronzing around the inner part of the disc. I put the disc in and it ran the whole movie and it played fine. I looked at a number of other Criterion discs I have and this was the only one that had that yellowing/bronzing going on.

I think when this whole bronzing issue started that it was established that all Criterions released prior to May or June 2010 were potential bronzers.

Yeah, well I never looked at that particular disc until yesterday, and the only miscoloration was in near the inner part of the disc, not where the actual data is. So will the whole disc eventually get weird and discolored and unplayable?

Yeah, probably. Once the bronzing process starts, apparently there's no way of preventing it. But the good news is that Criterion seems to have a good replacement program if you want to take that route when the disc becomes unplayable.

Is there any reason why Criterion has listed on their website 7 titles, when there are obviously more than 7 titles that are having these issues?

Actually it was only for a certain time period not everything, and then only from a single manufacturer. The earliest Criterion blu-rays should be fine. The potentially bad ones have been pretty well enumerated by this point, in this thread.

Not so sure as I KEEL YOU is, but it certainly is a possibility that discs with the discoloration near the hub could start discoloring elsewhere later on.

More typically the bronzing that's been problematic seems to be the variety that starts around the outer edge of the disc. There's numerous pictures of such in this thread.

The key at this point seems to be who the manufacturer of the disc was as to whether such discoloration is even a possibility. (All of mine were bought early on and most or all of them were indeed from that manufacturer.) Only two of mine didn't actually play, but I haven't played them all yet.

Luckily Bigger Than Life is the only title I have that meets the criteria (unless there are dvds they put out too around that time that may have the problem), and as of now it's working correctly.

Mine probably looks like yours, but it played fine too. No reason to send it in yet.

Still have several to go through, but nothing so far.

You all might want to check your Summer Hours replacement discs to make sure they're okay...

Why would the replacement discs be bad? They were made by Criterion's current replicator and are therefore as good as any off-the-shelf Criterion BD released today.

That is presumably true, since no one has complained about modern Lionsgate titles and they must repress their old titles at the same facility that they use to press their modern ones. But I doubt anyone can say for sure.

If your disc is bronzing I would just send it in immediately. Do you really want to check it again every couple of years or so? Or start watching it and have it freeze? I think once the discoloration starts it's very very likely the bd will eventually fail.
