Kind of looks like when I used to start up my old IBM PS/1 using the DOS system and I had to write syntax in, back in 1990.

I mean, that clearly seems to be debug info from the BD software spec. I just can't imagine how that disc has gone bad in such a way that the BD player's software responds by displaying the debug info on the TV.

Basically it's an overreaction to the mere possibility of overreaction.

People participating in this thread have been very responsible. They've calmly and reasonably gone about collecting and sharing what has turned out to be very useful data. And all the while various gadflies have been buzzing about offering completely unnecessary counsel with regard to patience and moderation of tone. Apparently they fear a 'panic', of some sort or another.

It's been quite amusing in its own way, actually.

In fact, I just fired the disc up on my laptop here using TMT6 taking the below pic with my aging iPhone 4. Little easier to read the line items than the previous pic I had posted.

I know it sucks to have a defective BD, but in its own unique way, that error msg is awesome. I have never heard of a situation where a defective BD has generated the same output on different branded machines.

This is one of the most confusing threads I've ever seen, and not because of the content (which has been super useful, even though buried by now) but because how many times it's been ****ed with.

It's a different version of the film. The Criterion has the green tinted shot. The StudioCanal doesn't.

I'm aware of it. The Criterion is preferable but if my copy fails, it's the next best thing, despite that flaw in the presentation. I guess I could always go for the Criterion DVD for that scene (and exclusive extras), if the Criterion doesn't license it again in the future for a re-release.

IMO issues such as these should be in their own sub-forum with a separate thread for each issue.

With that said, please also add The Right Stuff on Blu-ray (Digibook) to the Warner Bros. section.

Early copies had an issue with the audio of the Blu-ray disc (48kHz). There is a replacement program in place to receive a new, properly encoded copy at 96kHz.

You can use this form to request a corrected disc: http://www.warnerbros.com/help/customer-service.html

Here is what I sent via the link above:

Hello, I purchased The Right Stuff on Blu-ray (Digibook) around the time it was first released and only now realized that there was an issue with the audio of the Blu-ray disc (48kHz). As I understand, there is a replacement program in place to receive a new, properly encoded copy at 96kHz. I would like to receive this disc if possible. Thank you.

Reply I received via email:

Dear Mr. XXXX:

I would be more than happy to help you with this issue. Please respond with your address, and I will then send you the corrected disc. I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your continued support of Warner Home Video products.

Kind regards,

Sherri Bogard
Warner Bros. Customer Service

After supplying my mailing address, I received the corrected disc a few weeks later.

I'm guessing that their ability to replace defective discs means that they've gotten the rights back and they're putting it back in print. How could they replace OOP discs unless they're printing new ones.

Yeah, there are fundamental issues with the disc now. Certain files on the disc simply can't be read anymore resulting in the issue. That being said, I didn't end up needing to purchase a second copy. Took matters into my own hands and was thankfully able to salvage what I needed after numerous attempts, enough to now enjoy a movie-only version of the film, no loading issues or audio/video related playback issues as a result. Plays beautifully now using any of my Blu-ray players throughout the house. Of course I won't go in to details on how I accomplished this as it's against the forum rules here. There are plenty of other forums out there where such discussions are allowed.

That sounds drastic. I'm sure the BD can be found for less than $10.

Maybe they had spares on hand? Until people get replacements in hand, we will not know. Plus, didn't they list 'Howards End' as a replacement title? I understand there has been talk of Criterion potentially getting Studio Canal titles again, but I thought bridges were burned when it came to Merchant Ivory?

I posted here about my Lionsgate title earlier today as it was relevant to the title of the thread at the time which has since been changed. Certainly agree with you. Hard to stay on topic when the title of the thread keeps getting changed.

Not drastic at all and it only cost me $3 and change. Wasn't about to purchase the title again if I had the means to do something about it myself using the original retail disc I had purchased from Amazon. Again though, discussion along these lines is prohibited on the forums here, even under these circumstances per a defective disc. Lionsgate is also no longer called out in the title of this thread, so I won't be chiming in here again as I don't own any Criterion or Well Go discs which are encountering issues.
