I looked up contact info for all the home entertainment labels and collected it here, so you can at least try getting replacements:
https://forum.dvdtalk.com/store-foru...er-thread.html

I've had good experiences getting replacements from Paramount, Criterion, Universal, and Lionsgate. I've had 50/50 success with Warner Brothers. Haven't tried any others.

I am really concerned about 4K UHD discs. If you think about how much more densely the data is packed and elevated number of layers - then think about how poorly handled they are (coming scratched to hell from the factory, fingerprints, etc) - it makes you wonder how good of a job they are doing in preventing contamination during the glue process and doing a good job at said glue process!

Both of my Lionsgate blu ray copies of The Haunting in Connecticut II: Ghosts of Georgia have bronzed all around their outer edges, and both discs pixelate/freeze/skip. Disc rot city. A 2013 pressing.

My 2008 copy of 40 Year Old Virgin stopped working midway through the movie. Froze and then started skipping. We were watching the Unrated version.

It seems Echo Bridge just makes crap discs. I have purchased quite a few of their movies at dollar tree over the last few years. I'd say I've had about a 25% failure rate. The blu ray discs look fine but they dont play. Drive just makes a loud buzzing sound then it says no Disc. I've tried in multiple drives. Echo bridge quality control must be non existent. These aren't even old movies.

Yikes, just checked mine and they're looking a little bronze-ish. Thanks for the heads up.

I watched mine tonight, same 2008 edition, the extended cut, along with most of the extras, and everything played fine.

These kind of things are very hit or miss, but at least there is the option to buy the later 2016 edition for not very much money.

Anyone have any trouble with this one?

My player refused to play it yesterday saying it was an unknown disc.

Watched original pressing of Purple Rain from Warner Bros the other night, and although it played fine on my Oppo BDP-83 (which is bulletproof and plays EVERYthing), it's bronze as hell. I'm takin' it as a sign of the times, and upgrading to the more recent remaster. But definitely an "early WB" title to look out for, just like my bronzing Blade Runner discs from that original BD set.

That's a known problem disc. See the "IFPI 2F29" section of the OP.

I'm reading that some Fox titles are starting to die on people, which is really unfortunate because with the Disney ownership who knows if those will ever get back in print. One of the two blu rays that I know for sure have stopped working for me is a Fox title (the Patton 2nd release).

Ouch. Most of my EB blus are either sealed or unplayed collection placeholders and so this makes me nervous. Also hoping my copies of Fox titles are fine. As soon as they started going out of print, I bought a bunch. At this stage it's just too tough to watch every disc with so many in the collection; that would take years.

I must just be asking for trouble but I stopped by DT recently and picked up a few more blus. I got Broken Halos (EB), The Bezonians (EB), and Ride. Thankfully the 2 Echo Bridge discs work fine! So they aren't all bad.

I really want Oculus but my DT doesn't have that one. They sure have a ton of DVDs though , theres so many its difficult to sort through! But I love that they offer movies for $1.25!

If anyone is ever thinking about picking up "Sheryl Crow - Miles From Memphis", dont bother. I've purchased this Blu-Ray online twice now. Both times, the disc I received was mint but can't be read. The disc starts buzzing super loud and then goes to "no disc." Very similar to what happened to my old House of 1000 Corpses Blu-Ray.

The Sheryl Crow disc came out in 2011 so seems kind of late to have manufacturing issues so I don't know what the problem is. I give up on this one though.

2009-2011 is the worst time frame in France for disc issues.
And I believe it's the same for HK and Korean discs.

On the Warners thread are two mentions of problems with Blu Rays of Gun Crazy & The Picture of Dorian Grey.

Do early 4ks have issues too? My john wick 4k disc won't read properly. The art on the disc looks a little lighter than other discs.

I'm familiar with laser disc rot so I'm not surprised to run across this section on blu ray bronzing. Makes me feel less crazy for ripping and storing my DVD, Blu Ray & UHD collection on my redundant NAS drives as soon as I get them. Thanks for sharing your experiences and knowledge.

Is there an updated list of (almost) everything somewhere? I assume the OP hasn't been updated in a while.

I have the first edition of Days of Heaven and it seems to be fine, and the code is blurry but it doesn't appear to be the one listed. Same with Paris, Texas- but the code is clear.
