It's been the national media saying that it won't happen because they can't believe a coach would want to go back to college from the NFL. Local sources have been saying for months that's it's been in the works, and I knew things would really pick up after the 49ers were eliminated from the playoffs. Of course nothing is in stone yet, but the odds are very good that Harbaugh is coming to Ann Arbor. One member of his staff is rumored to be Browns OL coach Andy Moeller (son for former Michigan coach Gary Moeller).

I didn't mean it that way...

I was saying that I doubt the contract numbers reported were accurate, but so far it appears I was wrong.

He'd be dumb not to take that job. He'd be the highest paid coach in football, and one of the highest paid coaches in all of sports (if not the highest).

It's not always about the money, but let's be real... it is. It's not like the 49ers FO is a huge fan of him right now anyways... for reasons I do not understand. Three straight NFC Championship games, including a Super Bowl appearance. That team was absolutely irrelevant for nearly a decade before he took over. They should've just given him what he wanted (more money).

Harbaugh likes to have complete control, and that is much easier to do at the collegiate level. I think he should take the offer.

I don't think he should take the offer. Harbough is a proven winner. Seems since he was the QB for the colts he's had the Chiefs number. Would be nice if there was a open coaching position in the NFC West. If the raiders were smart, they would be trying to sign him and give him complete control.

Personally I'd like to see MVP by position, since you win as a team. The criteria would be simple: Best stats takes home the hardware. That way it's more objective than subjective.

I'm reminded of Revis vs. Woodson for Defensive Player of the Year a few years ago. Woodson won, because by traditional stats Woodson was better.

Jets fans will tell you traditional stats didn't work because for Revis because people avoided throwing that way giving him less chance to get stats.

So even though objectively by stats Woodson was better people still think it was wrong to give it to him.

Plenty of coaches go from college to the pros then back to college coaching. Nick Saban did and it worked out great for him.

Usually the coaches go back to college because they fail in the pros. Steve Spurrier, Saban, Lou Holtz, Mike Riley, Butch Davis, and Bobby Petrino all flopped when they went to the NFL. Harbaugh has been a huge success with three conference title game appearances and a Super Bowl appearance in four seasons. He's now at a point where his personality clashes with the GM and owner have probably made it where he can't return to the 49ers, but there will be numerous pro teams that would hire him next year and a team like the Raiders would likely let him pick his own GM.

One thing that could come into play with Harbaugh is that his wife loves it in the Bay Area and supposedly doesn't want to leave. In the end this is Harbaugh's decision but if he has a chance to stay where they are and not uproot his family by going to the Raiders that could certainly come into play.

Probably a similar amount. The highest paid NFL coaches (Payton and Carroll) are at around $8 mill. That's about what Nick Saban makes at Alabama. Top-tier college jobs still seem more attractive to me. In the NFL any coach is on the hot seat after one bad season. In college football a top-tier coach can last 20+ years at a school and get treated like Gods.

That simply doesn't happen in the NFL. In the NFL the longest tenured HC is Belichick at 14 years. Only 3 curent coaches have been on the job for a decade or more and only eleven have been on the job for 5 years or more.

Petrino didn't flop.... he was given a crap hand when his star QB got sent to jail for being a dumbass and then he walked out on his team mid-season.

You also have so little control as an NFL coach compared to a college coach. In college, you decide what players to go after. In the NFL, the GM and owner likely consult the coach, but ultimately it's what they want that gets done.

I get the show live thru nfl now on my computer but when i go thru nfl now on roku i only get past clips not the live show thats on now from 12:00-3:00.

I had no clue Jimmy Clausen was in the NFL. Last I'd heard of that guy he played (horribly) for Carolina several years ago.
