CSN Bay Area's Matt Maiocco expects the 49ers to work quickly to re-sign free agent Alex Smith following Peyton Manning's decision to sign with the Broncos.
San Francisco is still widely believed to be Smith's top choice, and he's been reported to have a standing offer of three years and $24 million. That would be more than generous for a seven-year veteran who just cracked the 3,000-yards passing barrier for the first time in 2011.

Been watching ESPN and the "EXPERTS" think Denver is the best choice for Manning. "He can win a weak division and a Super Bowl there." Yes he can, but I think he has a better chance at San Fran. They are stacked on Offense now and they have one if not the best Defense in the NFL. A healthy Manning in San Fran = SB RINGS. Denver's O-Line will get Manning killed.

I guess Tebow is going to the Dolphins if anything just to sell tickets?

Almost feel bad for Tebow if he ends up in Miami. He gets his chance in Denver, is hated and loved, then gets traded to Miami where he plays for a year only to be moved out by an incoming rookie QB.

I’m pretty sure we can expect the end of days after all that happens!!!

Must suck to be a young QB.

Especially with Tebow. I mean sure he didn't put up the greatest numbers but he got the job done to get his team from a bad start to the playoffs.

It's like saying you did a good job kid, but not a good enough one to will the SB you're fired! Hit the bricks Jr, so we can bring in Grandpa.

Makes me wonder if for some reason if the Bronco's won the SB would they be doing the samething?

Tebow wasn't asked to throw a lot, I'd say running the ball well and improved defensive play had at least as much to do with the Broncos making the play-offs as Tebow did. Still think Orton got too much of the blame for the Broncos' early season slide, especially since they had another one once it started getting cold.

If you win 1 out of 5 games its pretty bad on you. And especially even worse when Tebow comes in and wins how many straight games in a row. They beat the Steelers which no one thought they could do.

Manning > Tebow. That's really all that needs to be said. We've all seen Tebow throw the ball. It's gross.

Now I laugh at all the reporters that were saying Manning didn't want to play in cold weather...

Anyone else realize this? There are only 3 Broncos with retired numbers and Manning's #18 is one of them. Wonder what his number will be.

John Elway – # 7
Frank Tripucka – #18
Floyd Little – #44

Gene Smith might be committed to Tebow, but it's not a sure thing that new owner Shahid Khan is. Khan has spoken favorably of Tebow in the past and said if he'd owned the team in 2010 they would have drafted Tebow, and he may order Smith to trade for Tebow. If the Jags signed Tebow they could untarp all the seats in the stadium and have no problem selling out every game, and not the fake sellouts they had last year where the stadium had thousands of empty seats the team had to buy up, and that could easily be worth $25 million per year.

If he's a Johnny U. fan he should have signed with San Diego and started playing terrible football.

The QB just doesn't have this much influence on a game unless they are the elitist of the elite.

I don't know why people think wins and losses are a QB stat. They simply aren't. You can find tons of examples of a QB playing out of their mind good and losing. You can find just as many examples of a QB just flat sucking and the team winning in spite of it.

The truth is Tebow had a hell of a lot of luck. Now perhaps he's blessed and will always have that luck. More likely it'll average out over time. Next time he won't have an opposing running back stupidly run out of bounds, or have his kicker hit a 59 yard field goal.
