A lot of rookie deals have gotten done over the last couple days, and the only unsigned first round picks are #4 pick Matt Kalil, #5 Justin Blackmon, #8 Ryan Tannehill, #11 Dontari Poe, and #20 Kendall Wright.

Blackmon's deal is the only one that should be complicated because based on where he was picked he should get a fully-guaranteed contract with no, but the team wants to protect themselves in case he gets arrested again. The Dolphins supposedly don't want to give Tannehill a fully-guaranteed deal with no offset money but considering the #7 and #9 picks are fully-guaranteed with no offset it's unlikely Tannehill is going to agree to anything different.

Wonder what a plea deal for blowing a .24 lands you. At 3x the legal limit it really should entail at least some jail time, even for a first offense. But I'm guessing it won't.

Despite it being Blackmon's 2nd DUI (he had his first in 2010) and blowing 3 times the legal limit all Blackmon received was a deferred jail sentence of 1 year, a $500 fine, and 50 hours of community service.

I see nothing about his license being revoked. Hard to believe his license isn't suspended at least for a few months if true.

Well, that should teach him a lesson. Surprised there's no mention of a strongly-worded letter in that sentence.

Yes, and this is why a .24 should be taken far more seriously than the usual .08 limit. Risk of causing an accident with a .24 BAC is nearly 10 times that of someone at .08.

Blackmon better produce when he plays, but that's really up to the QB. I'm supporting Gabbert 1 more year before I bail on him, that's all I'm going to say

Any news on MJD's contract? He's probably going to hold out until they do.

The Jags don't know if he's going to show up for camp and as far as I know there's no negotiations on a new or restructured deal.

Panthers center Ryan Kalil bought a full-page ad in the Charlotte Observer today explaining why the Panthers win the Super Bowl this season. The ad read:

Quote:
Why the Carolina Panthers will win Super Bowl XLVII.

Because we have to.

For eighteen years we've wanted, hoped, and tried...

But no more.

A moment is upon us, where dreams become beliefs and yearning becomes conviction.

How do I know?

Because I've seen it.

Look closely and you'll see it, too. You'll see July 1st, 1993, when 40,000 of you bought club seats, licenses, and luxury boxes financing the construction of our stadium in a single day.

You'll see October of that same year, when the NFL owners unanimously selected Carolina as the league's 29th franchise.

You'll see two decades offseasons bad and good. But never of greatness.

Now, look closer.

At the daunting, unpaved path ahead, lined with detours, naysayers and walls which seem insurmountable. But not for you. You'll ignore what you hear and break through ANYTHING that stands in your way. Because you see what's at the end of this.

Victory.

One hundred percent, sterling silver victory. The Lombardi Trophy, And it exists.

CAROLINA PANTHERS -- SUPER BOWL XLVII CHAMPIONS!

Sincerely,
Ryan Kalil

Just curious, but how much alcohol does one have to consume to blow a .24? I know he probably drank over several hours, but you'd think he had to really have been knocking them back.

Put his $$ where his mouth is.

If they dont win then he should donate his entire 2012 salary + bonuses to NFL charities.

Yesterday Jags owner Shad Khan said he is not willing to rework Maurice Jones-Drew's contract, and it's now being reported that MJD will not report to camp.

I'm usually of the opinion that players that are past their rookie contract shouldn't hold out, and while I still somewhat think that in MJD's case I can also understand where he's coming from. MJD is the team's entire offense and he's got a lot of leverage. Without him the team might not win a game. In addition it's not like the Jags are up against the cap, they've got the lowest payroll in the league and are over $25 million under the cap, so it's not like it would hurt them to throw an extra year or two onto MJD's contract and give him a couple million extra upfront.

I hope Kahn comes into terms with an extension for MJD. I mean what else are the Jags going to use that money for? Dumb FA pickups again?

MJD proved all his critics wrong 2 years ago that he's a full-time RB and an elite on too. I think he has another 2 or even 3 more years before he declines.
