The QB is arguably the most important position in sports (although I could make an argument for goalies). But there are simply too many players on a football field for a QB to have the impact people love to pretend it does. Put any QB you want on the Jags and they weren't going to be a Superbowl team.

It is (nearly?) impossible to name a "great QB" who didn't have a running back or a group of unbelievable receivers on his side. It is almost as hard to name one behind a terrible offensive line.

"Blame" Gabbert

First of all, at the Jags' facility, the 23-year-old is known as Blame Gabbert. "Nothing's ever his fault," said one former Jags assistant. There are internal knocks on Gabbert's intangibles (leadership, attitude, accountability) and, though his pocket presence improved last season, there were still concerns that he gets "scared" under pressure. He also has issues with accuracy (58.3 completion percentage in 2012).

With all of that said, the Jags haven't completely given up on their investment. There's a scenario in which Gabbert goes into training camp as the team's presumed starter, though it's likely the team will bring in at least one young passer. The Jaguars are also open to acquiring a veteran, though it would have to be someone they like more than incumbent backup Chad Henne, who played reasonably well after Gabbert went down with a season-ending injury to his throwing arm in November.

Chiefs sign WR Bowe, tag OT Albert

The Chiefs also reportedly agreed to a five-year, $18.75 million contract with punter Dustin Colquitt.

The flurry of moves were the Chiefs latest major transactions in the past week. They are set to acquire quarterback Alex Smith from the San Francisco 49ers on March 12, the first day trades can be official and the start of the 2013 "league year."

Bowe agreed to a five-year contract and Albert, who said over the weekend he hadn't heard from the team regarding his contract status, was designated a franchise player. Both had shaky 2012 seasons as the Chiefs struggled to a 2-14 finish.

The next piece to fall into place for the Chiefs might not come via free agency, but the draft. The Chiefs own the No. 1 overall pick and could now be eyeing defensive help. They were 27th against the run and don't feature a legitimate No. 1 cornerback. Alabama's Dee Milliner or a number of pass rushers could be targeted by the Chiefs, who also are thin at linebacker.

But you know thats misleading too.

I think vince young was 6th in voting once but went because others backed out.

Another qb in the other conference couldve been 4th & not gone if others didnt back out.

Matt Ryan is a considerably better quarterback than Flacco, but he won't get a contract like Flacco. Having a ring is a great thing for a quarterback, but sometimes it isn't the end all for quarterbacks.

Depends on if he wants one. Ravens are a playoff team with most QBs. Falcons are lucky to win 8 without Ryan.

I think your wrong about that... Even if they lose in the playoffs as long as his numbers don't go back to being butt poop ugly he'll get his.

I still worry about him on the road, and would love to see him have to go to Seattle or GB and grind out a win.

If the Ravens don't have a choice to resign Flacco (and honestly I think they could have let him walk and not had a major uproar) then the Falcons REALLY don't have a choice.

The numbers are out for Dwayne Bowe's new contract and it makes him the third-highest paid receiver behind only Calvin Johnson and Larry Fitzgerald. Bowe's a solid receiver but in my opinion he's not worth near that much. The numbers per the link are:

1. $15 million signing bonus.

2. $750,000 fully-guaranteed base salary in 2013.
3. $250,000 workout bonus in each year of the contract.
4. $8.75 million base salary in 2014, $4.25 million of which is fully guaranteed now and $4.5 million of which is guaranteed for injury only now. The $4.5 million becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 league year.
5. $10.75 million base salary in 2015. $1.5 million is guaranteed for injury now, and it becomes fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2014 (not 2015) league year.
6. $9.75 million base salary in 2016.
7. $9.75 million base salary in 2017.

It adds up to $36 million over the first three years, and $56 million over five. Of the amount, $26 million is guaranteed. $20 million is fully guaranteed now. The other $6 million becomes fully guaranteed next year.

It's very possible that Bowe won't be the third-highest paid receiver for long with Mike Wallace and Greg Jennings free agents and Percy Harvin angling for a new deal.

The Falcons gave Vick a ridiculous contract. And even pre dog fighting scandal Vick had durability issues and was a poor drop back passer, unlike Ryan. Ryan is a far superior QB. If he wants a truck full of money I think he gets it.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said this morning on the Dan Patrick Show that he expects Matt Ryan to get a contract this offseason that exceeds Flacco's. In essence he was saying that each time a quarterback gets a new deal it lays the framework for another player to get a slightly larger deal, so Brees got $120 million, then Flacco got $120.6, so Ryan will get $121.
