In any event, Sunday/Monday, a lot of teams jockeying for seed placement. I gather that the first round bye may benefit a few teams with injured starters getting close to recovery.

RIDICULOUS! Goodell is thinking about removing kickoffs. Not exactly new news but this idea of the replacement is just ludicrous.

That's just absurd. Way too many teams will end up going for it when they're down in the fourth quarter. Kickoffs are way more safe than this idea.

If they take kickoffs away can we really call it football anymore?

Teams who "just go for it" do so now, in the form of an Onside kick.

I think people have the belief that a 4th and 15 is easier than an onside kick, but numbers don't really back this up. Success rate for 3rd and 15 and 4th and 15 combined are basically identical to the success rate for Onside kicks.

Onside kicks are boosted by the surprise version, but 3rd/4th and 15s are boosted by teams who care more about giving up a TD than giving up a 1st down (AKA prevent defenses late in game).

I think the biggest difference will be that there are fewer punters who can boom it than Kickoff kickers.

After speaking with three "NFL sources," Yahoo's Jason Cole considers Buffalo to be Michael Vick's most likely landing spot in 2013.
The Bills were known to be interested in Vick in 2009, and have sent mixed signals on Ryan Fitzpatrick's future. In order, Cole considers Cleveland, the Jets, and Arizona as Vick's next three likeliest destinations. Cleveland is a surprising choice after the Browns spent a first-round pick on Brandon Weeden last April, but according to Cole, new team president Joe Banner is "lukewarm" on the over-aged rookie's prospects. Although Vick suffered through a 2012 season marred by injury and ineffectiveness, the uncertain state of the quarterback position around the league should net him a starting job in 2013.

Vick has good football left in him, and we have a fairly good offensive line. (assuming we can resign Urbik) I would love to be able to ditch Fitzpatrick for Vick, and then draft a young quarterback in somewhere between round 3-5 to develop for the future.

Cowboys nose tackle Josh Brent, who has started 5 games this season with Jay Ratliff injured, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter. Details are slim right now but it sounds like Brent was driving drunk and crashed and killed his passenger Jerry Brown, who was on the Cowboys practice squad and played with Brent at Illinois. Brent is obviously not playing tomorrow.

Edit: Per the police report Brent was drunk, speeding, and flipped his car, killing Brown.
