It's because his TDs are way down (though he has 4 of his 5 in his last 5 games). ESPN doesn't show big yard performances unless they are historical or have TDs.

His touchdowns are down, his avg is down, his fumbles are up, and up until he played the jags week 8 and started going crazy his yards/ touchdowns were disgusting.
Every player that has been on the cover has had some kind of drop off.
Oh it also helps that Stafford is number 1 in attempts (by 42 attempts!!!) and Johnson is #2 in targets and guess whose tied for #3 in dropped passes CJ.

Polamalu sprained his MCL in the first half of the season opener and missed the next four games. The Steelers went 9-7 and missed the playoffs. Fitzgerald, on the other hand, started all 16 regular season and both playoff games for the Cardinals. He did not attend the Pro Bowl due to a rib injury, leaving Steve Smith of the New York Giants to take his spot in the 2010 Pro Bowl. He recorded 97 receptions (third-most of his NFL career), 1,092 yards (fourth-most), and a career-high 13 touchdowns.[58]

Madden NFL 12 cover athlete Peyton Hillis missed five games in the 2011 NFL season with a hamstring injury and missed one game with strep throat, causing his numbers to decline continuously after the second week. Hillis suffered a re-injury to his hamstring during practice before week nine. In addition, his divisive behavior in the Browns locker room during the season, particularly with regards to his contentious contract negotiations, were the subject of much media attention. Hillis eventually left the Browns, signing a with the Kansas City Chiefs during the off season as a free agent.[63] When asked about his significant decline, Hillis pointed towards the infamous Madden curse as a factor, saying "Things didn't work in my favor this year. There's a few things that happened this year that made me believe in curses. Ain't no doubt about it." [64]
