I wouldn't give him full control of anything especially after seeing how piss poor he ran Chicago's Offense. Anyone who watched those games could clearly see he used Matt Forte and Bush improperly. But whats done is done Lovie going to enjoy spending his offseason on the beach sipping Mai Tai's.

There's some speculation that now that Mike Lombardi is the GM in Cleveland that he may try and trade for Patriots backup QB Ryan Mallett. Lombardi worked with Bill Belichick in Cleveland and thinks highly of his team's ability to develop QBs. He has said that if he got the 49ers GM job in 2011 he would have traded for Patriots QB Brian Hoyer and made him the starting QB, and he though Mallett would be a first round pick in the 2011 draft. I would think New England would want at least a second round pick for Mallett since he's the only QB on the roster behind Brady.

This morning on the Dan Patrick Show they said a Vegas oddsmaker told them these would be the current odds for the Super Bowl matchups:

Patriots -6 over Falcons
Patriots -2 over 49ers
49ers -3.5 over Ravens
Falcons -1 over Ravens

In addition you can bet on the Super Bowl by conference, and right now the line is AFC -2.5 over the NFC.

Because it would speak to the system in place in NE same way that quote does... Cassel looked like a stud in NE, yet crumbled elsewhere. Same way Rypien could win SB MVP (not that you'd know anything about that

), and then fell off a cliff without Gibbs, and with Tom Brady missing a single season they've had no reason to throw anyone else out there.

Just so you know, comparing Cassel to Mallet isn't exactly right since Mallet has much better ability than Cassel ever had (no to mention a cannon for an arm).

I see most on NFL.com are predicting that's gonna be the 49ers and Patriots in the SB. That kinda makes me worry some hearing that. Everyone on there picked the Broncos to win and you know how that went.

At the time Lombardi was a candidate for the 49ers GM job Cassel was coming off a division title and a Pro Bowl berth (albeit as something like the 5th alternate at QB) so Lombardi hadn't seen how bad Cassel would regress, so at the time he had seen Belichick take a 6th round pick and a 7th round pick and made them into Pro Bowl QBs. Hoyer always looked good in the preseason and the 49ers incumbent QB was Alex Smith so it would have made sense for Lombardi to want to bring in someone relatively inexpensive to compete for the QB job.
