It took Drew Brees a very long and drawn out negotiation just to get $20 mill a year from the Saints. And he's the face of the franchise (and city) and a top-tier QB whose numbers dwarf Flacco's. Weird how that works.

He refused to take less. He put himself above the good of the team, which doesn't say much about his character.

Quote:
College football signing day may have been in February, but that doesn't mean recruiting season is over. Just ask Bills wide receiver Stevie Johnson. Johnson has spent some time this offseason trying to lure some star free agents to Buffalo.

"I've talked to a few guys, trying to get them to come to Buffalo," Johnson told the Buffalo News' Tim Graham.

Dwayne Bowe, Greg Jennings and Dashon Goldson were all listed by Graham as players Johnson is attempting to woo.

Johnson talked to Goldson -- the 49ers All-Pro free safety -- as recently as Thursday.

"I just asked him, 'who would you want to go to?' Out of his lips, he was talking about Buffalo a lot," Johnson said. "I'm like, 'Man.' Hopefully we give him an offer."

If the Bills can nab one or two key players when free agency begins on March 12, Johnson thinks that could be enough to help get Buffalo over the proverbial hump.

"I feel like we're close and these fans deserve it. It's been a long time," Johnson said. "It's a cycle in this league. We were up for a long time. Then we were down. Now I feel like it's coming around. We have some pieces to make it happen."

Johnson, the team's leading receiver for the last three seasons, continues to remain optimistic about the Bills, despite the fact that in his five years with the team, Buffalo has never won more than seven games. The Bills haven't made the playoffs since 1999.
Stevie!

Whether it's Geno Smith, Ryan Nassib, or Tyler Bray all three would be an upgrade over Fitzpatrick. Hell, I'm starting to think Tarvaris Jackson would be an improvement. Fitzpatrick was so terrible in the fourth quarter last season, we lost several games because of him even with our terrible defense.

The best thing I see for a young QB going to Buffalo is there's already a good receiver in Stevie Johnson and two good runningbacks. The bad things I see are an overpaid defense and no receiver depth after Johnson.

Careful now. JaWalrus is attempting what could be the greatest comeback in sports history. Of course there that little matter of dropping 40+ pounds just to make it kinda, sorta, not likely (fat chance in hell) make it feasible.

Well if he can muster a super bowl win he'll be the highest paid qb in the NFL

I hope Rodgers doesn't ask for monster contract like Flacco's and realizes there is no I in Team because it will almost guarantee no more superbowl titles.

fatediesel any rough ideas what A-Rod could get or maybe looking to get?

They were willing to give him 16 million per year before the start of last season without having won anything. Asking for 4.6 million more after a superbowl win isn't unreasonable to me.

But how much was guaranteed at the time? Guaranteed money is what matters with these contracts. Flacco had a chance to put the team above himself, and have money set aside so the team can keep other key pieces to their team. He went the selfish route instead. It's certainly his prerogative, but not a decision very many people will respect.

Plenty of people would step over their own grandmother for the league minimum let alone 20 million. He could have a 600 million dollar contract but if only one million is guaranteed who cares. I mean I believe Fatsworth had a punt return clause in his that if he returned a punt for a touchdown or caught a touchdown pass he'd get a million bucks.

Team owner Daniel Snyder made him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. Haynesworth could have earned as much as $115 million in Washington. Instead, he leaves the Redskins having earned nearly $35 million
That just shows you how little you actually get. 35% in his case, and then you'd have to cut out taxes, agents, exc. So he might have been lucky to actually have Galactus's 16 million.

For some players they feel they gotta strike while the irons hot.
