You have to wonder if it's just an abnormal year and an aberration or if this is going to be a fairly regular occurrence since the NFLPA insisted on fewer offseason practices and less contact in training camp when negotiating the 2011 CBA, and if this is an unexpected consequence of that.

It has to be the "less contact" thing, players aren't getting into proper game shape before the season and are therefore more susceptible to suffering season-ending injuries. So that part of the new CBA was actually counter-intuitive.

The week 11 Chiefs-Broncos game has been flexed to NBC's Sunday Night Football. That's interesting because CBS had originally protected that game, even though it was scheduled for a late-afternoon game during a week CBS didn't have the doubleheader which would have meant most of the country wouldn't have seen the game. I'm guessing the NFL stepped in and forced CBS to give up the game because it doesn't make sense for CBS to willingly give up the game.

It wouldn't be the first time the NFL overrode the flex scheduling rules. In 2011 in the midst of Tebow-mania NBC wanted to flex the Patriots-Broncos game, which CBS hadn't protected, but the NFL let CBS keep the game.

As if the Jags season wasn't bad enough, they've now lost Justin Blackmon for at least the remainder of the season:

Quote:
Justin Blackmon of the Jacksonville Jaguars has been suspended indefinitely without pay for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.

Blackmon’s suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the start of the 2014 season.

GD Blackmon!! He's going to be cut after this season. This guy has loads of talent and is throwing his NFL career away.

Let's see... the past Jagaur wideouts getting in trouble by the law from the the top of my head.... Jimmy Smith our best WR ever is serving time (5-6 years) in the state of Mississippi. RJ Soward was dealing with alcohol abuse and was let go. Matt Jones was a crack head and now Justin Blackmon. I think I'm missing another one but can't remember, but this is pretty frustrating coming from a Jags fan.

What is with Florida and drugs, is it the proximity to Mexico and Cuba?

Blackmon's cost himself some serious money, and this doesn't take into account how much he could have potentially made in future contracts:

Quote:
Combining the four-game suspension with the eight-game suspension, Blackmon lost $966,000 in base salary. He also forfeits $1.33 million of signing bonus money for the 12 games missed in 2013, and he jeopardizes $3 million in signing-bonus money that was carved out of his signing bonus and converted to 2014 and 2015 roster bonuses.

That’s a total cost for now of $2.296 million, plus another possible $3.09 million if he doesn’t return to the league, or if the Jaguars cut him.

He’ll also lose base salary of $2.072 million and $2.914 million if he doesn’t return to the NFL, or if he’s cut by the Jaguars.

That’s a total actual and potential loss of $10.372 million.

The age of the over entitled athlete. Most athletes are too dumb to realize that the average NFL career is extremely short. Most of them start spending like they won the lottery even before the first paycheck comes. The smart ones save their cash and don't hook up with the gold digging b!tches.

RJ Bell of Pregame.com talked to a Vegas linesmaker after Sunday's Jags loss and the linesmaker said on a neutral field he would favor the 2008 Lions by 2.5 points over this year's Jags.

Yeah they were at least IN some of their games, I think they had quite a few losses that came by less than 7 points. Still remember the BSPN Kitna meter for that season since he had predicted 10+ wins for them that year.
