That's cause the record for both of them were terrible, if they were both getting in regardless and getting a game at home, but having to travel after that, its just another lame game to set up who ur facing in the playoffs

theoretically teams in the #3-4 reseeded format could start resting players early if they both have a playoff seed and a home game and can't improve on it

Do you want to see more of the chiefs bringing out scout team guys and even earlier? Hell no

Even if both the packers/bears were in already they would still be fighting for a higher seed or bye just like the 49ers & seahawks who both were in already were doing in their week 17 games.

Also using your example if there was reseeding the chiefs wouldnt have been locked into #5 the way they were now.

So actually reseeding wouldve made that game more important.

if the packers and bears can't reach a bye they're just swapping 3/4 seeds

the chiefs would've been the 3 seed for a while and the colts game would be way more important to them than the chargers game

add playoff reseeding to the list of knee jerk moves being considered

who the hell is spearheading this crap anyway? must be the guys who can't play on the road and needs to play at home, they need to shut up and go on the road to win the SB like some of the recent SB winners

your record gets you in to the playoffs and winning the division gets a home game, why upset that balance?

if you want to talk about unfair, a first round bye is way more helpful than having the first game at home

it's amazing that seahawks and niners fans going down each other's throats this week and they're not even playing each other, niners are playing GB
Jerry's pushing for extra play-off spots, probably because the Cowboys have been a hop, skip and a jump away from the play-offs the last 4 years in a row. Wish someone would gag him already.

We don't need more playoff teams, the number of postseason teams is perfect as is. The last thing we want to do is turn into the NBA and NHL that allow too many playoff teams. I wouldn't mind a seeding change though based off best records rather than division winners.

Its more $$.

ESPN already has it in their contract they would pay $100 milllion for a playoff game + if NFLN sells off some of their games for a new tv package a playoff game would most likely be included for the buying network as well.

Id love 14 teams cause wildcard weekend would be 3 games saturday + 3 games sunday....cool.

But if the system works really well as is, then why change it? (Other than money)

Pretty soon we'll have 32 teams in the playoffs then, I guess.

Keep it at 12, but change it to where the seeds are based off of record alone... or division winners could get an automatic bid to the playoffs, but don't automatically get a #1-4 seed.

If you still want division winners in the playoffs then at least make it to where the 49ers are 3rd, Packers are 6th, Saints are 4th and Eagles are 5th. So basically the teams would swapping locations this weekend. That would at least keep it based on record alone, but still allows division winners in the playoffs.

Titans were screwed over by this in 2008 IMO. We had the #1 seed at 13-3. In the divisional round of the playoffs the #2 Steelers (12-4) got to face the Chargers (8-8) while we got to face the one ****ing team that could prevent us from making a Super Bowl run in the 11-5 Ravens. We should've got the Chargers, and we would've advanced to the AFC Championship against the Steelers who we had already beaten 31-14 without Haynesworth and Vanden-Bosch. Super Bowl for us easily.

You have to put it in perspective as far as seeding realignment. Look at all those years in the eighties the 49ers dominated . They benefitted from a weak division. Same thing with the Saints until recently. The NFC North and AFC North are tougher divisions. So even though the records don't look great it was more competitive to win the the division.

Can't believe we haven't fired OC Mike Sherman yet. Apparently Philbin has final say when it comes to his assistants, but if he doesn't have the guts to fire his friend and mentor, he should go as well. I like Philbin, I wouldn't mind having him back, but he needs to replace Sherman and his head-scratching, hair-pulling play calling. Bring in Chudzinski or Kubiak as OC.

Titans have fired Mike Munchak.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans fired coach Mike Munchak, the Hall of Fame offensive lineman who's been with the Oilers/Titans franchise for more than 30 years, on Saturday, a source told ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen.

Munchak compiled a three-season mark of 22-26 and did not take the team to the playoffs, even after late owner Bud Adams signed off on free-agent contracts worth over $100 million in the spring.

Munchak has a 2-20 record against teams that have finished seasons with a winning record, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

He had no experience as a head coach or coordinator when Adams hand-picked the Titans offensive line coach to replace Jeff Fisher when the team parted ways with its longtime head coach in 2011.

Munchak had one year remaining on his deal, as do the majority of his assistants. Defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and senior assistant/defense Gregg Williams have expiring deals.

The 2013 Titans started 3-1, but ultimately got only seven starts from starting quarterback Jake Locker, who missed time with a sprained knee and hip before returning and suffering a season-ending foot injury.

Team president and CEO Tommy Smith, who heads the family ownership group that took over when Adams died, will choose a new coach with advice from general manager Ruston Webster, who got a strong public vote of confidence a few weeks ago.

Munchak preached that his players and everyone in the organization should "be a pro" who knew their job and did their job.

But as a group they often came up short of expectations.

A revamped offensive line and the run game were supposed to provide the foundation of this year's team, but that identity never developed.

In each of his three seasons, the Titans lost to a division rival who finished with the worst record or tied for the worst record in the NFL.

In 2011 that was the Colts (0-13 coming into the game), in 2012 it was the Jaguars (1-9) and in 2013 it was the Texans, who moved to 2-0 with an overtime win over Tennessee, then lost 14 in a row, including the season finale in Nashville. The Titans lost at home to the Jaguars when they were 0-8 in 2013 as well.

It's unknown what Smith will most want in a new coach. Webster spent extensive time in the front offices Tampa Bay and Seattle before joining the Titans in 2009.

As a Packer fan I can't believe he was in the GM/Head Coach position and ended up squandering Favre's best years with lack of talent around him on the team.

I agree Sherman is a garbage coach.
