I never used the word Thug, nor criminal... classless? Totally.

Also a big difference between talking smak to your friends then being on live TV in front of millions and acting like a class A douchebag.

Crabtree is a Texas Tech kid, he probably never learned to act properly around others.

Now Belichick is whining:

Quote:
Patriots coach Bill Belichick called Wes Welker's collision Sunday with New England cornerback Aqib Talib "one of the worst plays I've seen," a sharp critique of the actions of one of his former stars.

Belichick delivered the comments roughly one minute into his news conference at Gillette Stadium on Monday morning, less than 24 hours after the Patriots fell to the Denver Broncos 26-16 in the AFC Championship Game.

Belichick's criticism was unprovoked, part of the coach's opening remarks, and stands as stinging commentary from a man who usually limits what he provides in a public forum.

"It was a deliberate play by the receiver to take out Aqib. No attempt to get open," Belichick said. "I'll let the league handle the discipline on that play, whatever they decide. It's one of the worst plays I've seen. That's all I'll say about that."

Hey,

Only Welker knows if he did it on purpose but after reviewing the play I know that...

1) It's easily repeatable
2) It's effective
3) It can be reason-ably safe for the Welker if the other guy doesn't see it coming.

Therefore this particular play should be dubbed "The Welker" and put in all the playbooks.

I tried to not get interested in NFL this year... Last year I was too interested in several teams and the drama and soap opera story lines they serve up about the players. (Katrina and the Saints, Vick and the Dog Fighting, Hernandez and the killing people, and so on.)

This year.. controversial calls decided games and sportsmanship seemed to be heading in the direction of hockey. This kind of thing bothered me. Then,... I noticed the antics and the fans more and honestly, I don't want to continue to be among that stereotype. Not that plenty of great people aren't fans...I am going to try again to not be interested at all in NFL next year. (a few members would jump for joy if they didn't hear the same thing last year.) This year I have the fact that I no longer have access to the games aside from Crap-O-Vision internet streaming which should help a lot.

Anyways... Looking forward to the SB, hope it's a great game. Also hope to avoid the whole show next year... which may not work.

-Brian

None of those story lines were last year. Katrina and the Saints is about 6 years old, Vick and dog fighting is 3-4 and Hernandez was this year.

Actually after reading that I do have a better opinion of him. Most of whaT he said I agree with. Though I don't buy him patting Crabtree on the backside some sign of sportsmanship as he claims.

Ok that's details but those were just examples of soap opera crap and digging into the off field lives of players hoping to keep people interested.

Sherman graduated stanford..and took 1 year of his master classes. He's not stupid or a "thug". He just knows how to get under the skin of the guys he is covering.

I still can't stand him and should just let his play talk

I didn't even think of that

and I didn't think the Sherman thing was that big of a deal. Don't really know why it became such a big deal.. possibly because there's TONS of post-game interviews in a season and 99% or greater can maintain his composure after a game. He looked a little foolish after the game, which I'd credit 90% to adrenaline. I'm curious to see how he'd act in a post-game interview if the Hawks won the bowl.

He is probably the best corner, but I wouldn't leave Haden or Peterson out of the conversation.

Not you personally, but somebody on this thread said "thug."

Being on live TV - for a sport supposed to provide entertainment for millions, a sport where to provide this entertainment, 200 pound athletic men smash into each other for our leisure, where we make comparisons to "warfare" and "battle" daily. Where knees get turned into linguini and brains all the same, and one of the best corners saying he's the best means he's classless?

I had to debate some of my friends who called Sherman a thug. Sure, he's from Compton. But he made it out of there - to a Ivy League school - where he graduated - as I'm SURE they're just giving out degrees at ivy league schools nowadays - was a legit scholar, went from 5th rd pick to premier corner, and because he exudes cockiness he's a thug? Did he brandish firearms about? Was he accused of rape? The only thing he stole was that pass out of Crabtree's hands.

Larry Bird was one of the greatest trash talkers of all time, constantly getting under folks skin. In retrospect, has anyone nowadays ever called him a class A douchebag? I found it even MORE hilarious that I heard on ESPN today Cris Carter - CRIS CARTER - saying [Sherman] should've acted with class.

He acted with the bravado we all wish we could, and for that I salute the man.

Marshawn Lynch didn't say a peep all season and got fined 50,000, by the way.

The Bird comparison holds no water, he didn't say or do any of those things in front of Millions. If you had a son playing HS football would you be proud of him if he acted the way Marshall does?

And no, I don't wish I could act with the "Bravado" the way he does...

What does Lynch's fine have anything to do with this?

Stanford isn't in the Ivy League. In addition, Lynch appealed his fine and the NFL agreed he wouldn't have to pay it as long as he talks to the media as contractually obligated in the future. If he doesn't talk then he will be fined $100,000.

If I had a son I would parent him, not let him think athletes are his role models. I'd be more worried about ESPN glorifying causing injuries in tackles.

I sure wish I could act with his bravado. The one time I did the Clay Matthews sack dance in my boss' office it wasn't well-received.

Lynch being the antithesis of the perceived "loud-mouth" behavior. He lets his play do the talking, succeeds, but there's "talk to the media" clauses in NFL contracts.

Crap. [citation needed] on my part. Whoops. IGNORE THAT DETAIL. Rest of the argument stands.

This is my first sports-related discussion! I usually avoid the rubbish on message boards.

Sherman just came off like a major jack ass, no one should deny that, why else would he put a statement out today explaining himself... other players were in the same situation, same adrenaline, Russell Wilson, Marshawn Lynch and none of them acted the way he did, they went out with class

Sure he's the best corner in the league hands down, but he needs to learn to win with class

Sounds like NFL is going to dump the extra point after TDs. Don't care if it happens. Pretty much a guarantee

Unless they want to move back 10-15 yards more to make it a little more difficult
