JaMarcus Russell wants to mount another comeback

JaMarcus Russell, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft who hasn't played since 2009, said he will "play for free" if a team gives him another chance.

Russell was 7-18 as a starting quarterback, completing 52.1 percent of his passes for 18 touchdowns, 23 interceptions and a passer rating of 65.2. The Oakland Raiders, who drafted him, released Russell in May 2010.

"God makes things happen for a reason," Russell said in a video for Sports Illustrated. "Who's to say? You might see me back. You never know, man. You never know. ... Whatever it is -- I can be a water boy and work my way into a scout team. It doesn't matter. I'll go play for free."

Russell reportedly sent letters to NFL teams last season asking for another chance.

This is the 4th straight year JaMarcus Russell has said he wants to make a comeback, and he's never gotten any consideration. Another year away from football isn't going to make any teams interested in him. It's possible to get to the point where your toxic to every NFL team, and JaMarcus hit that point a long time ago.

It is not irrational to think that changing your story over time, obstructing the investigation, and destroying potential related evidence is worth a 4 game ban, no matter how lame the original situation is.

Some people are willing to believe that all of that stuff has an explanation that totally makes sense and thus doesn't matter. Some people aren't. It is not irrational to be on either side of that fence.

EDIT: Incidentally, having read the dissenting opinion it largely is on the other side of the same line, outright stating that the aggravating circumstances did not warrant the increase in penalty.

When did Brady's story ever change? Goodell said that Brady originally said he only talked to the Patriots equipment manager in the 2 weeks before the Super Bowl about how he wanted the balls prepared for the Super Bowl, but when the transcript of Brady's testimony came out it shows he said he talked to the equipment manager about the air pressure of the balls in the AFC title game. The NFL and it's lawyers have lied multiple times about what Brady and the equipment manager talked about, including when they were arguing to the Court of Appeals, but the transcript is very clear.

As far as destroying evidence goes one of the attorneys who worked on the Wells Report publicly stated in an email that included the NFL's lawyers that they did not need to see Brady's phone or it's contents, and Brady's lawyers also were very clear that under no circumstances would they not turn the phone over due to privacy concerns. Nobody asked to see the phone until the appeal, after it had already been destroyed by Brady.

It's really in the best interest for both sides to compromise and put this behind everyone. But they're too proud to do that.

Johnny Manziel has been indicted for assault. Doesn't necessarily mean he'll be convicted given how easy an indictment is to obtain, but doesn't bode well for him returning to the NFL.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/26/us/joh...ted/index.html

Quote:
A Texas grand jury has indicted free agent quarterback and 2012 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel on an assault charge, according to Dallas County court records.

Manziel's former girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, accused the former NFL quarterback of restraining, hitting and threatening her during an alleged assault on January 30. She says in an affidavit that Manziel grabbed her by the hair and hit her, causing her to lose her hearing in one ear.

Wish Steven A would go with him.

ESPN has become a joke though... Slowly crumbling while other sports networks improve... I don't even share news that ESPN breaks first because I don't believe it. They've been wrong so many times recently.

I agree. Did you see their yelling match yesterday when the Brady decision was announced? It was embarrassing.

Haven't watched First Take in years, and I don't think I ever watched more than 10 minutes of it at a time.

Steven A is absolutely unbearable to me... No talent ass clown. Dude is gonna have a stroke or heart attack at some point if he can't get his sh*t together.

I think it was temporary hearing loss in that ear. But either way, he needs to do some time in jail. Maybe that will help him.

He'll probably get his dream team of lawyers to get him a slap on the wrist thanks to his rich parents. If I were his dad I'd completely cut him off financially and let him deal with the consequences of his actions for once. A little jail time is something he could use.

There's a lot of questions about how rich his parents actually are. I know the internet says his parents are worth $50 million, but I've never seen a site with anything backing that up. Deadspin did a deep dive into the Manziel family's wealth and there was a lot of questions about how rich the family truly is because legal troubles have plagued that family since his great-grandfather started making money in mineral rights, and it appears the family money is now controlled by Johnny's great uncle. Johnny's dad works as a general manager of a Honda dealership 3 hours from the family home (6 hours from where the family lived when Johnny was growing up) and is only home on weekends, and it seems if the family was as rich as the internet claims he either wouldn't need to work or could at least could live near the family. Johnny's contract with the Browns guaranteed him $7.9 million and he had more endorsements than anyone else in his draft class so right now he's probably living off his own money, but at the rate he spends that money is going to run out in a fairly short amount of time.

Some owners want the 4 game suspension reduced

msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/number-of-owners-reportedly-want-tom-bradys-suspension-reduced/ar-BBsjnTS?ocid=spartanntp

I would not be surprised if it goes down to 2 games or maybe even 1.

I would be. Goodell's won't allow any reduction in games unless Brady "confesses," which won't happen. His ego grew by three sizes off this court victory.
