Only one NFL player from 1998 draft class remains with team that selected him: Bears sixth-round pick, long-snapper Patrick Mannelly.

I always hated retired #s for reasons just like this....whats the point of a retired # if its gonna be unretired.

Just do what the cowboys & other do by putting names on a ring around the stadium.

I think Peyton should have shown respect for Tripucka and not asked to wear his retired number, just like a way past his prime Jerry Rice should never have asked to wear Steve Largent's number in Seattle. Tripucka really couldn't say no to Manning's request, he'd seem like a grumpy old man if he did. Manning should have just gone with #16 like he wore in college or #19 as a tribute to Johnny Unitas.

I forget who it was but I swear I read than a Yankees player requested #3 not too many years ago and when he was told the number was retired he asked who wore it.

I agree about the retired #.

Come on Peyton, leave the #18 in Indy... Start fresh..get a new number. Just a number...it's not going to protect you from a big hit.

What if they retired Peyton #18 in Indy in the future...then someone else come along and wanted #18...how would he feel about that?

Why is this Tripucka guy's number retired anyway? Looked him up and he played only 4 seasons with Denver in the 60's. Apparently he's the father of former NBA player Kelly Tripucka.

Tripucka's numbers with Denver: 13-25 as a starter with 51 TD's and 85 picks.

I would think Terrell Davis is more worthy of a retired number than that guy. Even with a short career due to injuries he was an NFL MVP, 2x Offensive POY, 3x All-Pro, 2x Super Bowl Champion, Super Bowl MVP and named to the 1990's NFL All-Decade Team.

Profootballtalk reports the Lions have re-signed MLB Stephen Tulloch to a five-year contract.
Details aren't in yet, but it's good bet that Tulloch came close to D'Qwell Jackson's $42.5 million contract after restoring his value with a fine 2011 season in which he led the team in tackles. The Lions did well to retain Tulloch and franchise player Cliff Avril on an improving defense. Tulloch's signing should put the wheels in motion for the rest of the inside linebackers on the market to begin settling in.

I think it was just the fact he was the 1st broncos qb....strange reason but they still retired it.

I saw a thing on the NFL network about the top 10 Elite QB's that went to a different team after so many years none of them really had the same success as they did with their previosu team.

Plus they had a poll where like 65% think the broncos are a sure shot to win the SB now.

And as soon as Sanchez starts to stink it up, which he will, let the media circus ensue, is that the type of distraction the Jets are looking for

He needs to go to the pats/packers or somewhere, where he can really learn.

I guess SF has another 3 years of Alex Smith.

I hope he's more accurate this year...no more excuses...or else cut him

Eagles acquired MLB DeMeco Ryans from the Texans in exchange for an undisclosed mid-round draft pick.
A Pro Bowl middle linebacker early in his career, Ryans wasn't was as well-suited to the weak-side interior in Wade Phillips 3-4 scheme. After a slow start in returning from Achilles surgery, Ryans came on stronger late in the season. He fills a major need in Philadelphia, where Andy Reid's squad has long been in need of a three-down tackling machine in the middle. Jamar Chaney (neck surgery) will move back outside. Considering Ryans $5.9 million salary, the Texans' haul of a mid-round pick was as much as could reasonably be expected.
Good move by the Eagles. They really need help at linebacker.
