You do know 0 and 9 will look the same? PNG is always lossless. the lower the number the longer it takes to load.

if your running vista an easy solution to grabbing a screen shot is to use a nifty tool called "The snipping tool". if you enter the word "snip" in the search function you will see a shortcut picture of a pair of scissors. open the programme at where u want the screen capture and it will allow you to draw a box around the capture and it will then automatically save the file as a jpeg and ask where u want to save it. try it.

The mplayer software can also be used to take screenshots in a more traditional manner by running it with the screenshot video filter:
Code:
mplayer -vf screenshot X:\BDMV\STREAM\00000.m2ts
This allows for the 's' key to dump the current frame displayed in the video window and shift-S can be used to toggle on/off a continuous frame dump.

Upon reflection, I guess my workflow is not quite as simple as I initially stated. However, there's probably someone out there with an even more convoluted methodology...
Hey there. I'm a sculptor and I specifically bought Labyrinth on Blu Ray so I could get some high-rez shots of young Jennifer Connelly. She rotates her head from left to right in one smooth motion in one scene, which is a portrait artist's dream. Of course now I'm finding that I can't actually get screenshots. So I downloaded SMPlayer onto my coworker's Dell XPS Vista laptop with a blu ray drive. But I can't figure out how to make it even PLAY the disk, let alone let me capture frames. I also can't find where you are supposed to put in that command line. I'm really un-technical so this is quite a nightmare for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering how to get this to work too.

Dled the programme, but it just shows a black screen when I try to load it.

I entered teh code into the run command thingy, but doesn't work. I am assuming though that if my player does not show the bluray playing, it wont do the screen dumb.

Any pointers?

when you use the mPlayer command line, where do the images get saved? Mplayer is currently playing Once Were Warriors (at just over half speed), but I dont know where to go to actually open the images. or am I not at that stage yet?

film finished playing, but no files found! argh!

I have tried to do some manual shots, and Mplayer command says '***screenshot 'shot0053.png' *** but the file cant be found..

Ok, that makes it clear to me.

So, I've got this Un-copyrighted blu-ray disc that I made myself of my dog chasing his tail. The dog has put his paw print on a standard release allowing his image to be freely distributed, it was witnessed by our cat, and the dog has no expectation of privacy.

So, If I wanted to create an un-copyrighted screen shot of my dog by taking a photo of it on my Sony Bravia LCD TV, using my Canon 50D, a Canon 35-70mm f/2.8 lens and a manfrotto tripod. Besides generally good photographic techniques to create sharp photo (mirror lock, shutter release button, two or three f-stops above wide open, etc.) what is the best capture technique /settings to use? I’m currently getting spiraling banding rings/lines on the final image.

Thanks

This may be, interaction between the lines and pixels of the display and the lines and pixels of the (digital?) camera, called moiré (Suggestion, try shooting closer or farther away (or different zoom settings) or defocusing the lens a little); or too fast a shutter speed vs display refresh rate (Suggestion, try using a slower shutter speed.) Using a tripod helps with this

I was having this exact problem earlier today. Although I don't see why the regular screen capture process doesn't work

Yes. But you might not like the solution. This is how I did it:

I bought a Hauppauge HD PVR and hooked it up to my computer and blu-ray player (Oppo BDP-83) via component cables.

The blu-ray player has to be an older one--newer players (post Jan. 2011) downgrade analog out to SD.

I captured video of the menu in its different states at 1080i resolution, then opened the video file in VLC player, changing the settings to deinterlace. I took snapshots of the video in VLC, and, voilà, screen shots of a blu-ray menu.

Use Print Screen and paste into Microsoft Paint. If that doesn't work, try FRAPS.

This is weird. A month ago I could simply make a screenshot with Fraps and now it suddenly doesn't work anymore. I haven't updated my video card drivers so what could possibly have changed? All I get is a black screen.
