Are you asking which particular case is used for each specific title? If so, then no as a specific title sometimes uses both types of cases (excluding eco-case variants).

Sony and Disney traditionally use Vortex cases while Universal, MGM, WB, and Fox have used Viva Elites. However this doesn't always hold true.

It's because no particular studio always uses the exact same style of case on the same movie forever. ie; I've seen titles from Sony like Casino Royale and Black Hawk Down instores with Vortex style cases and then I've seen the same title at other times with a Viva case.

Oh I know, but a list for the original case would be perfect. Like Fifth Element was originally released in a Vortex (as all Sony/CP titles are). But I've seen some in Viva cases, only after the first wave though. Kind of like certain slipcovers. Some are only available on the first release.

I won't go into it much, but sometimes I'll come across BD's w/o their original cases. I have to look on eBay for actual pictures to see what case the BD uses. And if that doesn't work (most of the time, the stock pictures are used), I'll have to look up the studio and see what case the majority use. A list would be very handy for others who do the same (I assume there's some).

Yesterday, I received The Other Guys and there was a long vertical cut that looks like someone might've done it with a razor or something and since I'm not in the US, returning it would cost me more than buying another one..

so even though the cut made it's way to the picture I'm sure replacing the case would make it "less" visible..

so can anyone recommend me a case that's identical or even very similar to the original one to buy from amazon or ebay?

Thanks

You'll need a Vortex case.

I recommend at least buying 5 because the price of a single one is almost the same.

5 cases: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-5-VORTEX-SIN...item1c152f1067

10 cases: http://cgi.ebay.com/New-10-VORTEX-SI...item53e33bed8d

How do you know what the original case was though? The problem is that some titles have been reported as being in both styles of cases even on release day. Sometimes the studios will use multiple manufacturers to meet their initial required quantity for release. Lets say Manufacturer A used Vivas and the studio distributed that batch to the west coast (or online retailers) and Manufacturer B used Vortex cases which was distributed to the east coast (or brick and mortar retailers). Or, one manufacturer may have been used and for part of the production run Case A was used but when that initial batch of cases was used up the machine was restocked with what was currently on hand (e.g. Case B). In these instances is there really an original case?

Well if that's the case (never heard of that until now), it wouldn't hurt to put "either or", or "both" for that specific title. Personally, if that was the scenario, I'd go with what the studio uses for the majority of its titles.

Disney and Sony use Vortex cases on all single disc releases and are the only two studios to do so. Disney will sometimes use Viva Elite cases for combo packs, but that is the only time they ever do so. That is when it gets a little hard to predict, but until you receive the movie, there is really no need to know which case Disney used for their combo packs since you will probably only be replacing it if the case is damaged.

In the example you used though, the only thing that really matters is whether the artwork would fit in a replacement case since 3-disc Viva Elites are thinner than 3-disc Vortex cases.

What Disney releases aren't multi-disc lately. Yes, they're the two out of the large studios which tend to use the Vortex case the most.

Some individuals pick up used or rental discs which only come with the disc and cover art (or a dvd case) and they like to replace the case with the same type used by the studio. My guess is this is why the question was being asked.

Maybe I can come up with one. Hmmm... Ok, there hasn't been one in a while.

Asking what cases each studio uses is a valid question. I didn't know you knew already.

Ok so i placed a order with diskmakers on sat and got them today so not too bad since they shipped out Mon morning. I ordered 25 elite cases so I can toss my damn eco cases and a few broken ones.I like to keep all movies in my collection in ELITE CASES but sadly I did not order enough. My total was around $15 shipped not bad at all. However i was not too happy how they packaged them they were just thrown in a box individually thankfully none of them were messed up. However, I would like for them to wrap the cases In 5packs or something. I will order some more one disk and 2 disk from them after i move in a month or so. Like I sad they are pretty cheep to buy so overall im happy.

Viva Elite's are very good. I used one of those to put my Piranha 3D Blu-ray in to replace the flimsy piece of crap SONY released it in.

My Planet Earth (BBC version) Blu case is cracked along the bottom. Who makes that case and where can I order another, if available? It's a four disc case with two double sided slips on the inside.
