While that's obviously better than nothing, those are of course, obsolete formats. It goes without saying that it would look substantially better in hd on 3D-Bluray.

Well that's certainly an option if you just can't wait...

The anaglyphic conversions are horrible. Save your money.

The 3-D bootleg of GOG has been around for about 15 years and is from poor elements. The fully restored 3-D Blu-ray is in the works as we speak, with 2K scans of the 35mm camera negative (right) and only surviving 35mm element (left) and looks amazing!

Thanks! I missed the blu-ray thread until it was pointed out to me above. Last I saw, you had the left eye element I believe, and the owners of the right eye element had shown no interest. Glad to know they changed their tune!

Me too!

There's a rather lengthy (and interesting) story to share about finding that lost left 35mm print. I'll probably get to tell it when the Blu-ray is released.

Twilight Time has revealed that they will be releasing a 3-D title in December this year.

The name of the disc will be revealed when the November/December titles are released to the press during the first week of August.

No, we have nothing to do with the Twilight Time release.

I suspect it's one of two that Sony has restored and is available, either Miss Sadie Thompson or The Mad Magician.

Could be Inferno too...

Hopefully not Inferno allot of people would have imported from Panamint Cinema especially the Region A release. I couldn't see another release of Inferno selling well and if Twilight Time release Inferno and it didn't sell well they may not release other 3D blu rays.

Inferno is a great title, but we don't need it twice.

A month ago, I would've been rooting for the Vincent Price movie, but after the trailer on the Rarities disc, I badly want to see Miss Sadie Thompson. I keep coming back to that trailer, there's so much conflict and drama crammed into it, and the 3-D in that final shot is spectacular (and exactly the kind of 3-d you only see in native films, and modern films are rarely that brave).

Frankly both titles can't come soon enough.

A double-bill of these would be perfect, but if it's in 3D I'll buy this release whatever it is...

It would be cool if they included one of the Three Stooges 3D shorts Pardon my Backfire or Spooks with Miss Sadie Thompson or The Mad Magician. But, I'm guessing Sony might think they could make more money if they include the 3D shorts with a boxset of 2D Three Stooges shorts. People who love the Three Stooges would buy the set and also those who love 3D.

Thing is, they probably wouldn't even consider the previous release as being a factor if it didn't sell. They'd just say "There's little 3D interest" and leave it at that.

I just saw a quick "heads up" from someone at Twilight Time on another website that the December 3-D release will be a recent Japanese flick, apparently quite spectacular.

This is very good news for those of you who are interested in recent Japanese 3-D flicks. I sincerely mean that. But if the information is accurate, color me disappointed. I had high hopes for a vintage 3-D release.

Oh, well. If this recent title does well for Twilight Time, maybe it will help lead to further vintage releases. In any event, I am a fan of Twilight Time and really hope they do well with all their releases.

No U.S. release yet for Space Pirates Captain Harlock?

Space Pirate Captain Harlock is probably the most likely candidate.

that was my guess.

I'm not too disappointed because they were at least quick to shut down speculation about a vintage title, rather than having to wait till the August announcement.

The main issue I'd have is that if it's a title that's already available overseas, it may not be a good example for gauging 3-D demand.

Here's hoping for the longer cut, instead of the shortened version made for the English speaking markets.

Ok, back to Golden Age 3D Features

From Home Theater Forum:

"And since there has been such speculation about this project, we will confirm that one of our December titles is CAPTAIN HARLOCK: SPACE PIRATE (2013), which will be our first-ever 3-disc blu-ray set. We are presenting 3-D and 2-D versions of both the Japanese and International Cuts, along with a separate disc comprised of copious extras - quite the package for anime fans! We recognize that this is unusual territory for us, but we were offered the opportunity because of our relationship with Toei Animation - (TT co-founder Brian Jamieson was Toei's marketing consultant for the worldwide release of the film) - and consequently we have been allowed to release the most comprehensive package for this movie on blu-ray anywhere in the world. We are proud to be associated with it, and hope there's at least a few of you that will take pleasure in some truly dazzling visuals - James Cameron, who has enthusiastically endorsed the project, considers Aramaki to be one of the greatest anime directors out there -- hop on board and try it -- you never know, you might like it!"
