Well it's meant to signify the technological difference between DVD vs 4K. It's as much of a timeframe comparison between VHS and Blu-ray. It's likely a production value situation, I highly doubt this will be the Stranger Things final form.

Same here. “Out of stock” everywhere nearby.

Well, I’m ready to start the drawing for who’ll get the extra set I have, but there’s another set I got for another NYC member who hasn’t been online in two days to see my PM. Should I just keep holding this other extra set for them until they finally log on?

I'm not anti-LCD or anything. And I know that Sony has broke the mold with the ZD9, as far as FALD-LCD panels go.

But what I like, and prefer, about OLED, is the infinite contrast ratio and 'true black.' Even if LG's, Sony's, and Panasonic's OLED panels don't get remotely as bright as the top-end LCDs--there's still a certain overall depth and sharpness to the image produced by OLED tech, that I just don't personally experience with LCD.

Hell, even when I looked at the iPhone X and compared it to my iPhone 8S, the difference in depth and sharpness, was overwhelmingly more noticeable on the former. And while I am by no means comparing smart phone screens to TV panels, it definitely reminded me of why LG committed to bringing it to television sets in the first place.

Honestly, I'm glad you love your ZD9, dude. I'm not in business of shitting on people's sets here, despite the arguments of HDR galore. I know that thing is an absolute beast.

Did not go through this entire thread, but if I recall season 1 was non-HDR on Netflix. Is this going to be in HDR10 or Dolby Vision?

Thanks for the feedback. When I demoed the A1, I was really blown away by the color gradation for both SDR and HDR content.

If I may ask one more Q: does the Sony video processor help in creating a better, clearer image for 4K content compared to the B6, based on what you remember? One of the reasons I am leaning toward the Sony is because of the video processor. What I mean is, as much as I love OLED tech, I still feel like LG's processor on the B6, leaves a little bit to be desired in terms of cleaning up unintended 'noise', and other minor macro-blocking issues in some 4K content, even on disc. I am always in a dark room, so I never put much into the whole ABL, peak brightness, and all that other stuff, which I know the LG B7 is a bit better at. However, the appeal of the LG B7 to me, is the multiple HDR formats, and now the Technicolor picture mode, which I guess Technicolor's own engineers worked on.

This is a hard decision to make.

The Sony has much better blacks, motion is the biggest deal for me

I went from a zt65 to the b6 and the lg gave me motion sickness even with all processing off. The Sony has eliminated the motion blur issue

The colours are more depth filled also and detail is better

Banding is visible in a dark room on grey content, for example if you play video games , limbo and inside where literal hell for bands and my set isn’t that bad compared to others

When I tried to buy another copy the other day, the system had updated to not allow it and said that the item couldnt be sold until 11/19. I had tried the regular checkout and same self checkout register and was denied a sell. The associate that got the copy from the back then checked his device and showed me that the street date was 11/19, which wasn’t there when the other associate checked it on Monday night. So, you may want to check on Sunday to see if stores have available to buy.

No worries, I just thought I'd interject and say that DV will just be the loveliest of bonuses because if you get a Sony OLED then you'll be getting processing that shits over the LGs. Sony have a different approach to tone mapping though, preferring to clip to preserve APL rather than the more extended preservation of highlight range on the LG. And you can't fine tune it as much as an LG or Panny when it comes to the nth degree of calibration BUT the controls that are there will still get you where you need to go. Might just be worth you hanging on and seeing what 2018 brings, we're not too far away from CES where we'll get an indication of what to expect.

Not to derail the thread, but this was my similar process. I went from a Kuro & ZT65 to a B6 (with a weird projector era and a Samsung edgelit poo inbetween) and the motion was just >the worst< to me. I tried every possible setting combination then I returned it. It was judder hell, or artifact hell. No inbetween.

I preordered the 65" A1E, and before my order was to ship I cancelled it - personal reasons, but also due to the reports of banding from AVS (since they are LG panels after all, anyway). My B6 had some banding too that absolutely shook me out of the movie every time. Pan's Labyrinth was unwatchable.

In the end, I grabbed a Vizio P75 for 3K and it's given me the best compromises for everything I wanted at a reasonable price (I was thinking X940E otherwise). Go figure.

But I've seen some baaaaad banding on OLEDs on AVS. Panel lottery, it is inescapable.

Anyway, yadda yadda can't believe we're not getting lossless yadda yadda.

Yeah, not to shit on OLEDs at all but the vertical banding and discoloured patches that I see referenced constantly in OLED threads (even on "good" examples of it) would drive me bananas, being the eagle-eyed nit-picker that I am. And from past plasma experience I just don't think that my intermittent viewing habits are particularly suited to an emissive tech which I'd need to tiptoe around. LCD panels of COURSE have their own version of the panel lottery and FALD tech creates a kind of "banding" of its own but damn, it's wonderful to not have to worry about that crap on my Zed. Saves me valuable nit-picking time!

I’m lucky to the extent that I have zero discolouration, banding at 10% is tolerable

But when studios render shadow at 5-10 near black it shakes me out the movie

My banding is no way near as bad as some, I might test run pans tonight

I think if the zd9 had that slightly more black, I would have gone zd9

Stunning set

The blacks are incredible on the Zed in about 95% of content, truly black black, it's things like star fields that are like Kryptonite for a FALD display and so it proves here. But I'll take that trade-off vs OLED banding.

I've spent several years with all "home theater" viewing on plasma display followed by front projection. No way I'd every go back to any display with back-lighting. Of course, I don't ever plan to move away from front projection. My 60" VT60 is relegated to casual cable (news, sports) in my den.

Frankly though, if reference 4K LCD and OLED each have valid positives and are close in overall image quality, then at 65" (or even 85") it will fail to measure up against the size of reference quality front projection. There's simply no way around this inconvenient fact. Ever better OLED image (or LCD) at quite a price can't deliver a true theater at home experience.

So how much better does this look, those who have it? All of my local Targets show it in stock now. Anyone have any thoughts vs. the Blu-ray?
